Homeschoolers!

I’ve had a couple of you reach out to express interest in doing an ELA group using the Harry Potter books/my rough draft curriculum.

This would be for middle and high school aged students.

Please let me know if you would be interested in joining this and we’ll get it up and running asap! We can meet once a week at The Dragon & Cone. No charge. I just love Harry Potter and education and am happy to help!

Also, the whole series is one HUGE Christ allegory with A LOT of New Testament imagery and parallels. This factors into the lessons I have written. Yes, witches, wizards, and Jesus all in one. It’s a niche approach, I know. We can discuss if you are interested but have concerns.

We LOVE your feedback, even when that feedback is “The Goblin King is . . . can I get a new drink?”

Not everybody hates it, but so far most of you who have ordered it and given us feedback have told us you don’t love it.

So we are changing it up! Instead of ginger ale with pistachio and raspberry, it will now be lemon-lime soda with pistachio, strawberry, and dark chocolate. Think of a fruity Dubai chocolate soda. We think, we hope, you’ll like it much better!

If you really enjoyed the original version, just let us know when you order that you’d like that one, and we’d be happy to make it!

Made some doughnuts in the test kitchen today.

1. Though I am definitely on the tail end of my man cold, I still cant taste everything. I can’t taste cinnamon, specifically. So odd. So verdict on the flavor is pending.

2. The consistency is pretty good. Not quite as moist and dense as I’d hope an apple c***r doughnut would be, but not horrible.

3. If I have time this week to play around with the recipe in the not-home kitchen, I might be handing out free test doughnuts. Stay tuned

If you come into The Dragon & Cone this evening, you might notice the addition of a couple Keurigs to some of our counterspace.

First, though they are now there, we are not quite ready to fire them up and start making hot drinks (cocoa and coffee).

Second, we never intended to do coffee at all, but? We've had a lot of people come in hoping they could get a coffee with their ice cream or GF baked good. While we always recommend Owl Canyon Coffee Wellington (and we still do!) we have had parents and grandparents with kids tell us they don't want to schlep the littles to a second location for a coffee, so they just don't get one.

As the parents of six (now adult) children, we SO feel that. As the once-stay-at-home-homeschooling mom of all those kids? I especially get that. Everybody likes to talk about decision fatigue and who carries most of the mental load, yet nobody acknowledges schlep strain. I SEE YOU!

All that to say, we'll have coffee soon. We are not going to have fancy coffee. No lattemochesspressaccino here, is what I'm saying.

Ccino . . . Chino? Isn't that the name of the brother character in West Side Story?

BRB

Nope. Chino killed Tony to avenge Bernardo's (the brother) death. Guess it's time for a rewatch.

Anyway, we won't have fancy coffees with artistic foam designs. We will have coffee, made from a Keurig, with a few creamer options and our array of syrups you can have added to your average cup of joe if you'd like. Oh, and I probably need to order sugar packets, no? If you want real coffee house coffee, please keep going to see our neighbors across the street.

But if you're in for treats and just can't make a side quest? We'll have you covered in a very basic way that, honestly, still might be too fancy for my coffee-guzzling, Greatest Generation grandparents, God rest their souls.

So, to recap:

Cocoa is coming (not that anybody wants that just yet . . . stupid, never-ending 90s);

Coffee is coming (we are open to suggestions as far as K Pod brands/flavors), and we can zhuzh it up a little with syrups if you want, but we'd still suggest Owl Canyon if you need a coffee made by people who know deeply what they are doing;

Chino is not Maria's brother in West Side Story but is, rather, her would-be suiter who kills her boyfriend to avenge her brother's death and, arguably, though spelled differently, is part of the name of a fancy type of coffee that we won't be serving.

Hot apple c***r has not been discussed in this post, but we *are* exploring our options there as well (and experimenting with GF apple c***r doughnut recipes, because we have faith that FALL WILL COME).

Just a couple reminders, one for today and one for Monday!

I should probably make this two separate posts, but I’m on day 5,273 of the Man Cold, so we all get what we get out of me right now 😂

Apparently we created this FB page a year ago today. The purchase of the building wasn’t finalized until early October, so one could argue we jumped the gun a bit, but we had faith it would all go through, and it did.

Many of you started following our journey very shortly after the page was created and well before the business was open, and you shared the page and helped get the word out, and we can’t thank you enough!

And many of you are new followers, and we also can’t thank you enough!

In the one year since the page was created we are only 50ish people shy of 2k followers, and we’ve only been open for 2.5 months. That’s just crazy to me.

So thank you for all of your love and support, whether you’ve been here for a year or for a day. Thank you for all the shares, and thank you for coming to see us for ice cream and sodas and other yummy treats!

We can’t wait to see how we can grow our offerings for you in the year to come!
