We have just about outgrown our space again — and this time, it’s because our bread program keeps growing. We are so excited!

Take a look at our morning bake so far. Once these beauties cool and we get them packed up, we’ll turn around and do it all again. ❤️

Just a little Saturday note: we will NOT be at the Waynesville Farmers Market today.

Shelton House is hosting the 2026 Blue Ridge Heritage Weekend at Shelton House, and there will be plenty going on in the area today. Please get out, enjoy it, and support them!

We’ll see our Waynesville market friends again next week.

And if you’re headed toward Sylva today, you can still find us at the Jackson County Farmers Market!

Fresh bread is on the way!

Good Morning Sweet Town
Our frozen pie freezer is fully stocked, and this is your sign to take dessert off your to-do list.

These are whole pies, made here at Farm to Cake, frozen and ready for you to keep on hand for company, weekend dinners, birthdays, cookouts, or just because pie sounds better than planning dessert.

We have:

Coconut Cream — cool, creamy, and piled with coconut goodness.
Peanut Butter — rich, smooth, and made for peanut butter lovers.
Key Lime — bright, tart, creamy, and refreshing.
Strawberry Key Lime — our key lime pie topped with strawberry for a little extra summer flavor.
Lemon Cloud — light, lemony, creamy, and perfect chilled.
Pecan — classic, sweet, nutty, and buttery.
Apple — comforting, spiced, and always a favorite.
Derby Pie — pictured here, loaded with chocolate, nuts, and that rich cookie-pie texture that makes it hard to stop at one slice.

Grab one for now, grab one for later, or keep one tucked away in the freezer for the moment you need dessert handled.

This day in history: July 7th, 1928

We have all heard the saying:

“That’s the best thing since sliced bread.”

It is one of those phrases that stuck around because, at one time, sliced bread really was a big deal.

Bread itself has been around for thousands of years, but bread sold already sliced is a much newer idea. The inventor behind the first commercial bread-slicing machine was Otto Frederick Rohwedder, an American inventor and engineer who believed people would love the convenience of buying a loaf that was already sliced and wrapped.

He was right.

The first commercially sold sliced bread came from the Chillicothe Baking Company in Chillicothe, Missouri, on July 7, 1928. The date is a fun little detail because July 7 was also Rohwedder’s birthday.

Then, in 1930, Wonder Bread began selling sliced bread, and that helped push the idea into homes across the country. Wonder Bread became one of those household names almost everyone recognized. For many families, it was the sliced bread they grew up with — soft, white, neatly packaged, and ready for sandwiches, toast, and lunch boxes.

That is really what made sliced bread so popular. It was easy. It was practical. Every slice was the same size. No knife, no uneven pieces, no extra step.

It may seem simple now, but at the time, it changed how people bought and used bread.

So when people started saying something was “the best thing since sliced bread,” they were talking about an invention that truly made everyday life a little easier.

And Wonder Bread helped make sliced bread part of the American kitchen.

Not bad for something as simple as a loaf of bread.

Happy Birthday Otto Rohwedder!

Happy Fourth of July weekend!

We’ll be open tomorrow until 3 PM, and you can also find us at both markets — Sylva and Waynesville.

We’ll have cakes and pies for the holiday weekend, plenty of breads, brioche hamburger buns for your cookout, quiche, chicken pot pies, and of course… éclairs.

Come early for the best selection. We bake for the day and usually sell out by the afternoon.

Featured here is our two-layer key lime pie, topped with strawberry coulis and finished with whipped cream. It has a baked key lime layer on the bottom and a classic Key West-style cured key lime layer on top.

Stop by the bakery or come see us at the markets for something scratch-made for the weekend.
