Local Knights of Columbus #4036, Shower of Roses Council invites you to participate in our first Blessing of the Barrels event in Wayland on Friday, August 28th!

Join us as we celebrate the patron saint of brewers, St. Augustine of Hippo, with a special blessing at our local drinkeries and libation-centers led by Father Maximilian Nightingale.

In Western Christianity, Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430) is the patron of brewers. This connection comes from Augustine’s own life story: after a period of worldly indulgence, including frequent parties and a life of loose living, he experienced a profound conversion. His transformation from a man of sin to a holy bishop became a model of turning away from vices and embracing a life of virtue, which inspired many to seek change in their own lives.

St. Augustine is venerated for his deep spiritual writings, his role in the early Church, and his influence on Christian theology. The feast day is a time for the Church and communities around the world to recall his life of conversion, faithfulness, and service, and to ask his intercession for the faithful. Today we honor him not only for his virtue, but as a contributor to Western philosophy and culture.
