Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives forever changed that day.

We remember those we lost, the families who continue to carry their memories, and the countless heroes.

To the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and first responders who served that day and in the days that followed, we thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to caring for others.

We trust you. We have just also learned to never underestimate what a plate of really good calamari can do to a person's best intentions.

You know what we have noticed?

People come in for the first time a little unsure of what to expect. They settle in, take that first bite and something just clicks. By the end of the night they are laughing with the staff, John has stopped by their table, and they are already talking about what they want to order next time.

And there is always a next time.

We have watched strangers become regulars and regulars become family right here in Waxahachie. Every single night this community breathes new life into the historic Rogers Hotel. And honestly it never gets old.

Everyone loves a good Fettuccine Alfredo. But have you tried it at John’s Place?

Our Fettuccine Alfredo starts with homemade pasta and a garlic-infused cream sauce, made for twirling, sharing, and maybe keeping the whole plate to yourself. Want to try something a little different? Order it the Roman way, without the cream. Or add chicken and make it your own!

Back in the day nobody smiled for photos. Long exposure times, serious expressions, pure dignity. It was simply how things were done.

John and Jen are doing their absolute best to honor that tradition.

And up on that wall behind them keeping a close eye on everything? That is John's great great grandfather and grandmother. Something tells us they would appreciate the effort.

We are not saying these two are always this serious. We are just saying the food and the drinks are no joke and neither are the people making them for you every single Wednesday through Saturday.

The recipes have been passed down through generations for a reason. Some things are worth taking seriously.

Come see if you can get them to crack a smile. We hear it is possible. Allegedly.
