It is with great pleasure we announce our 2022 Rising Star Award recipient:
⭐Roy Petteway of Petteway Citrus & Cattle ⭐
A few things about Roy,
Roy has served Hardee County, as well as the local agricultural community for many years. His influence has helped bring a spotlight to ag-related issues, including citrus greening, hurricane damage, etc. He has regularly been willing to be interviewed by the media to bring these and other issues into view of the public.
Roy has helped the youth of our community through 4-H, including working with Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers to help 4-H’ers learn how to grow a garden. They supplied the youths with the soil, raised bed frame and seeds, and assisted them in learning to grow food in their own backyards. This effort may have taught young kids to be interested in where their food comes from, and possibly garden into adulthood. Roy has also assisted with Ag-Fest at our local schools, helping to teach elementary age children the importance of agriculture in their community, as well as help them understand where their food comes from. Roy is the 6th generation of his family to live in Hardee County, and his dedication to, and love of our community is evident by his willingness to serve Hardee County through his volunteer efforts.
Roy has served on the Mosaic Community Advisory Panel since 2016. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association since 2018 and has served as President since 2020. Roy has also served in the Peace River Soil and Water District from June 2018 to present and is the Treasurer.
Roy was also proud to be accepted as a member of Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Team in 2018 for a two-year term. While serving on that team, he also served on the Hardee County Young Farmers and Ranchers Board of Directors, serving as Vice-Chair, then as Chairman from 2015 – 2018.
Roy is presently serving on the Hardee County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2020 and served as Treasurer since 2021. He is currently serving as Vice-President and is slated to step into the role of President in 2023. On the chamber board, Roy has helped coordinate legislative trips to Tallahassee and helped with the planning of the annual gala.
On a personal level, as his family has a home on Little Gasparilla Island, he was inspired to serve on the local Volunteer Fire Department board in 2017, and since 2019 has served as Chairman of the Board. During his tenure, he has worked with county budgets, personnel issues and purchasing of equipment for the island fire department.
Roy Petteway is most deserving of the Rising Star Award, as his dedication to his community and his industry will propel him to further involvement in the future. Blessed with an infant daughter recently, he is dedicated to helping Hardee County continue to be a great place for her to grow up.
Roy Petteway will be formally recognized for all of his community contributions at the Hardee Chamber Hollywood Nights Annual Gala on February 4th, 2023, at The Ranch House Venue.
