🇺🇸🧗♂️ Tomorrow is a big day at APEX.
We’re incredibly proud of Ethan Moore, a climber, coach, route setter, and friend who has become an important part of the Athens-area climbing community. Many of you have climbed routes Ethan designed right here at APEX. Before our doors ever opened, Ethan helped shape the vision for climbing at Wire Park by setting some of the very first routes on our walls.
Early on Mayor Brian Brodrick made sure I met Ethan, and since our first meeting at that Oconee Farmers Market, I’ve been inspired by Ethan’s cool unassuming demeanor, and the old soul and dedication be possesses. Qualities of a champion that I love to see instilled and young people right here where we work each day! He’s a model for young climbers.
But Ethan’s story extends far beyond APEX.
For years, Ethan trained, coached, and set routes at Active Climbing, helping develop climbers throughout our community. I still remember training at Active as a college student more than twenty years ago. Long before APEX existed, Active helped build the climbing culture that so many of us enjoy today, and Ethan has been an important part of carrying that tradition forward.
After an incredible season that saw him finish every qualifying competition in first place, Ethan is now headed to USA Climbing Nationals in Vail, Colorado.
You’ve climbed the challenges Ethan set for you. Now let’s support the challenge he has set for himself.
Join us tomorrow, June 6, as we livestream USA Climbing Nationals at APEX while celebrating the 250th Anniversary Festival at Wire Park. It’s a great opportunity to come together as a climbing community and cheer on one of our own.
Good luck, Ethan. Athens and Watkinsville are behind you. 💪
