Dog House Diaries 💭
I used to ask permission for this on a normal week day. Employee time off was earned, not given. Not only that, but it was minimal.
I couldn’t get sick. Even when I was I didn’t have time for it. My time was reserved for whatever my kids needed. Out of said earned time? Too bad, so sad, you have to go unpaid to be home with the kids that are sick that you still have to provide for.
3 maternity leaves? Unpaid.
I’ve sat in an interview with an employer who was giving me a raise to recruit me there, as I told him my kids will always be first and I wanted to be clear - when it came down to it, what do you think?
I was running late to work one morning and called an hour ahead of time to let them know. Ellie was MaYbE 1 year old, throwing up in the car on the way to daycare and I chalked it up to car sickness, dropped her off at daycare and STILL went to work.
Later that day I sat across the table from my boss, who told me I was a disruption walking in late and “hopes my kid was actually sick.” The same person who got to put their name on my work.
No hard feelings, sir, but if you’re reading this that conversation lights a FIRE under my tail often.
I quit that next Monday without a plan.
I could seriously go on and on. If you don’t work for an employer who gives a crap about you or your kids, or if you’re someone absolutely terrified to take a leap of faith but you have something to your sleeve and flat out scared - there hasn’t been a sacrifice I’ve made that hasn’t been worth it. Do it.
Easy for me to say when my business appears successful, right? It hasn’t always been and not every event or set up is successful. I’ve eaten my fair share of ramen ok yall?! I have stretched a dollar thinnn. I’m normal folk.
But I can do this because you support me. Because you follow a hotdog business. Because you purchase a hotdog. Hotdogs!!!
Maybe it sounds so simple but look at the impact it has on a few babies because you support their mama!
I believed it in when hardly anyone did because I wanted this. Thank you for making it happen for me.
OK I LOVE YA BYE BEFORE I CRY lol
