Good morning Vallians!! Well y`all, I woke up to a notification on my phone that said, "Prepare for dangerous heat next week"; my response was why lord why lol. Here is the thing about working in a kitchen that most folks don't know about with kitchens in the summer. When its 100 outside its 110 in the kitchen; the nice cool air you feel in dining rooms does not exist in kitchens. Are there AC vents in the kitchen, yes; do we use fans, yes; but when 2 ovens, numerous burners, a hot griddle and a deep fryer are bumping - none of this works. It is absolutely horrible and we are on the verge of heat stroke on a daily basis. It is horrendous and not fun. So basically, all cooks loathe the summer, but we keep going, put those cold rags on our heads and necks, power chug water and Gatorade, and hope for the best. We are going to keep on cooking and y`all keep on praying for us!! Here we go Summer!!

The Special will be the Backroads and Boots -Thick-cut, griddle-crusted, all-beef fried bologna, dripping in classic, gooey American cheese on butter grilled Country White Bread. Diner dressed with a thick slather of mayo, Salt and Pepper dusted red tomato, house -pickled red onion, crunchy iceberg and drizzled with Mustard. Served with Dirty Chips.

The Plate Lunch will be Cowboy Spaghetti Casserole - Ground Beef, Sweet Peppers, Ranchero beans and Vidalia Onions, heavily seasoned with Bodega Spice and tossed with a creamy, scratch-made Ro-Tel Queso. Baked with a Cheddar cheese melt. Side Choices are Southern-Style Green Beans, Butter Beans, Skillet -Fried Cabbage, Black-Eyed Peas, Candied Yams and Sweet Mamas Mustard Potato Salad. All of Sweet Mamas Plate lunches are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped Honey butter.

Dessert - Y`all TORE the strawberry cake up yesterday!! I like it!! We have two pieces available for today`s service!

Good morning Vallians!! We hope all the dads had a wonderful weekend, playing golf, watching sports in your recliner, cutting the grass, or just having a moment of peace and quiet. I will never forget asking my grandfather one year what he would like for Father`s day and his reply was "a little peace," said with a grin and followed by a pause, "or a tie" lol!! Which of these two things do you think grandaddy received?? The tie, of course, he received quite a few ties from me over the years and to his credit, he worse every single one of them right to church on Sundays. My grandfather was OLD-SCHOOL and while I would not say he was gentle, he was in fact loving and kind, always with me. I loved spending time with him and him with me, and he was always teaching me things that my grandmother was not, like the proper use and care of tools!! He built me a sandbox, a basketball goal, a tire swing; he put my first swing set together, taught me how to make homemade ice cream on the back steps in the summer, he taught me how to spit watermelon seeds, something my grandmother never forgave him for. He taught me how to plant and tend to a garden, how to appreciate the simple things: like watching the trains roll into town, how to fix things when they break, and most importantly, he taught me about a father's love, filling in for my own absent father and never missing a beat. Thank you grandaddy for all the moments spent and the lessons learned.

NEW menu item shout-out is The Low-Down Dirty Dog- All-Beef Polish, cooked Ripper-Style and tucked in a warm Street Cart roll. Dressed and Dixiefied with a thick smear of Yellow Stadium mustard, Yankee Kraut, Dixie`s Sriracha Slaw, Neon Relish and Sweet Mamas Pink Pickled Onions. Studded with Candied Jalapenos and topped with ZAPPS Crushed Cajun Crawtater Chips. It is FUNKY and does NOT disappoint!! Nothing says Summer in the South like a good old DAWG!!

The Specials for Wednesday will be 1) The Mississippi Mariner -Dixie`s Southern Fried Catfish Fillets, made with Mississippi`s Pride of the Pond Catfish. Hand-breaded and Golden-Fried Crispy with our Sassy, Southern Fish Fry. Served in a Crusty French Roll slathered with Sweet Mamas Charred Lemon Dill Tartar Sauce and Dressed with Shredded Berg, Early Summer Tomatoes, Dill Pickle Chips and a splash of Tabasco. Served with Dirty Chips.

2) Sweet Mamas Southern Cold Plate -This Church Lady Southern Cold Plate does not disappoint. Our cold plate features FOUR Old-Fashioned Southern delights: Miss Vetra`s Old-Fashioned Pimento Cheese, Dixie`s Southern Lady Chicken Salad, Sweet Mamas Mustard Potato Salad, and OLD-SCHOOL Cherry Coke Salad. Presented with a bed of fresh greens, Sweet Gherkin Pickles, fresh melon and a Sweet Mamas Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin with house-whipped Honey butter.

The Plate lunch for Wednesday will be Dixie`s Old-Fashioned Loaded Baked Potato soup: creamy, buttery, velvety and hits ALL the southern feels on a rainy summer day. Dressed with Sour Cream, Cheddar Cheese, Chopped Smoky Bacon and Scallions. The sides will be Country-Style Green Beans, Hand-breaded Fried Green Tomatoes, Southern Skillet-Fried Cabbage with bacon and onions, Candied Yams, Butter Beans and Black-Eyed Peas. Wakey Wakey Water Valley!! Good morning and happy Saturday from the Sweet Mamas crew!! Y`all need to go on ahead and roll out of bed and bump on down to Sweet Mamas for some of our Old-Fashioned Southern breakfast and brunch. Saturday is the one day of the week we do breakfast and brunch, so we do it all day and we do it right!! Our doors open at 7:30 am, the coffee is HOT, the grill is LIT and the music is FLY; we do not come to play on Saturday morning!!

The special with be Peach Melba Shortcake -Buttery biscuit shortcake, filled with Vanilla Peach Chantilly Cream. Topped with Fresh raspberry sauce and a drizzle of peach caramel. Served with a side of bacon. Amen and Hallelujah!!

Our menu is filled with a variety of Southern deliciousness: you want it, we got it!! Good morning y`all!! We are rolling into Friday like some bosses, ready to throw it down in the kitchen and make some FINE Southern food to put in your belly!! We have been having a STRONG food week and today is no different, so get excited and get ready to have lunch at Sweet Mamas!

The NEW menu item shout-out for Friday is The Bella Donna -Crusty Italian Roll stuffed with Fresh Mozzarella, Summer Greens, Sweet Italian Tomato Salad, Crisp Cucumber, Red Onion Shreds, Top Shelf Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Reduction. Finished with our house Italian Shake and black pepper. Y`all, hear me when I tell you that this sandwich hits ALL the feels for me: it is Summer, Italian Summer. Fresh, filled with layers of flavor and that CREAMY fresh Mozzarella, it`s SO GOOD!!

The special of the day is a Fried Green Tomato Caprese Salad- Hand-breaded Fried Green Tomatoes, golden and crispy, layered with Creamy Mozzarella and FRESH basil, served over Vinaigrette tossed summer greens. Topped with Peach Relish and a drizzle of Balsamic Reduction. Finished with crushed, pan-roasted Pistachios.

The Friday plate lunch is Sweet Mamas Old-Fashioned Meatloaf, and it is FINE!! Let`s be honest, there is A LOT of BAD meatloaf in the world, and it makes me sad but THIS meatloaf right here is moist, flavorful, and hits all the Southern Woman feels! Side choices are Yukon Gold Butter mashed potatoes, Country-style green beans, Butter beans, Miss Vetra`s black-eyed peas, Southern Fried Cabbage and Candied Yams. Good morning Vallians!! How are we feeling about this FINE Thursday?! We are feeling pretty darn good about it in the Sweet Mamas kitchen and when we feel good that means y`all eat good!! Any of y`all watching the World Cup? There have been some really interesting games, and I think it`s one of the better tournaments. Personally, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Scots take over Boston; these folks have been delightful, roaming the streets in Kilts, beer in hand and bagpipers pipping across the city. Y'all are making me want to go to Scotland!! Also, the Norwegians with the Viking rowing chants, y`all are winning the day. If you have not tuned in, I highly recommend watching a match or two; you will not regret it, I promise!

New menu Item showcase today is The Dancing Cowboy -Crusty French Roll stuffed with Savory, Herb Crusted, Griddled Mushrooms dripping in melty Provolone. Dressed with Caramelized Sweet Onions, Summer Tomato, Banana Peppers and Horseradish Pub Sauce. We are very proud of this sandwich; it is one of our NEW vegetarian options--think a meatless French Dip and you will get the Vibe. Also, this sandwich can be made Vegan if you leave the cheese and the Pub sauce off! It`s a winner!! We are also shouting out The Southern Kiss Reuben today, but let`s be honest, this sandwich has a following and I don't think we need to say much, about the old girl, cause y`all know!!

We have TWO specials for you again today!! The first is The Dali Shawarma - Warm Joseph`s Pita loaded with our Shawarma Spiced Chicken breast; marinated overnight with BOLD Middle eastern spices and grilled to order. Freshly dressed with Crisp lettuce, tomatoes, chopped dill pickles, crumbled Feta cheese and Dixie`s Pink pickled onions. Finished with Creamy Lemon Garlic Sauce, Cucumber Tzatziki, Crushed Pistachios and Pomegranate Molasses Ribbons.

The Second is Sweet Mamas Summer Cold Plate -This Church Lady Southern Cold Plate does not disappoint. Our cold plate features Three Old-Fashioned Southern delights: Miss Vetra`s Old-Fashioned Pimento Cheese, Classic BLT Pasta Salad, Broccoli Cheddar Quiche. Presented with a bed of fresh greens, Sweet Gherkin Pickles, fresh melon and a Sweet Mamas Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin with house-whipped Honey butter.

The Thursday Plate lunch is Miss Vetra`s Sunday Chicken and Dressing with Chicken Table Gravy and FRESH Cranberry Sauce. The sides are Butter Beans, Black-eyed Peas, Dixie`s FRESH Collard Greens, Southern Fried Cabbage, Sweet Mamas Candied Yams and Country-Style Green Beans. We`re back!! Good morning, Water Valley!! Thank y`all for letting us take a short break; we are rested and ready to get Sweet Mamas kitchen TURNT UP!! We missed y`all and we hope you missed us. We have some FINE cooking happening in this kitchen this week!! Our NEW Summer menu is LIVE, and it is crunk. We will be shouting out new menu items all week along with our FLY specials, plate lunches and desserts. Let`s do it y`all, Sweet Mamas Style.

Featured in our photos today, we have our NEW, locals favorite, The Southern Steakhouse Wedge Salad- Classic Iceberg Wedge, served with our Old-School, Scratch-Made Steakhouse Bleu Cheese Dressing. Studded with Crispy Hickory Bacon Pieces, Cucumber Moons, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, boiled egg crushed nut sprinkles and Crumbled Bleu Cheese. Drizzled with Sticky Balsamic Reduction and dusted with Black Pepper.

AND our NEW summer turkey sandwich, The Angry Bird - Toasted Marble Rye bread, slathered with Strawberry Hibiscus Jalapeno Mayo and built with Smoked Turkey, Pepperjack Cheese, and Bacon. Good evening Vallians! Lawd have mercy it is HOT out there today, I mean HOT!! Y`all stay hydrated if you are outside working; high temps with humidity equals a trip to the ER and that is not the way we want to kick off summer.

The Sweet Mamas Kitchen will be closed this week, June 9th-June 13th, for a short break before we dig in for Summer and work towards everyone`s favorite local holiday, The Watermelon Carnival!! We will be recharging our batteries this week and letting the young people be young people for a week--shout-out to my two high-schoolers who started working the day after school let out for summer!! When we are rested and relaxed, this provides better service for you our friends and customers. Thank you for allowing us to take this week off.

We will be back at it, next week, Wednesday June 17th and we will be ready to rumble!! The Sweet Mamas NEW Summer Menu is Live and y`all it is a good one!! Whatever your mood, we have it and it`s delicious.

Happy Saturday Lovely people!! Wakey wakey and good morning to all of you!! Did you wake up HANGRY this morning and think to yourself, " lawd, I sure miss my grannie's cooking " and let out a big sigh?! If you answered yes, then you have found the joint to make it right in your world! We bring an old-school Southern, home-cooking game to the table; we do things like our grandmothers did and take the time to make it the way you want it. We are not scared to use REAL butter and HEAVY CREAM; the crew gets those pots and pans rattling early on Saturday morning and we do it for you. Our goal is for y`all to leave FULL, FED and HAPPY!! Our all-day breakfast and brunch service begins at 7:30 am. We open our doors with smiles on our faces and HOT coffee--Sweet Mamas Coffee is a blend created specifically for our breakfast and Brunch service. You will not find it anywhere else; we have retail bags for sale for take home, so go ahead and grab you a bag or two.

It`s new menu week at the restaurant and we do in fact have some new surprises for you for breakfast. ALSO, The Modern Mama is back on the menu for summer; this is mine and Lori`s go to, 100% VEGAN and delicious!!

The Special for Saturday will be The Farmer`s Market French Toast--Thick-Cut Texas Toast baptized in a traditional French Custard hinted with Vanilla and Cinnamon, Butter-Grilled and topped with assorted seasonal fresh fruit Lemon Chantilly Whip and served with REAL Vermont Organic Maple syrup on the side. Dusted with powdered sugar. Served with choice of bacon or sausage.

Happy Friday and a good morning to you Water Valley!! I don`t know about Y`all, but I am LOVING these cool mornings and porch sitting evenings!! What a blessing in the deep south in the month of June; this is when things really start ramping up with the temperatures and no end in sight. I am trying to embrace each cool moment of the day and hold it near and dear to my heart, you know, to get me through the rough spots this summer. You know what they say, " Out of the frying pan and into the fire." In the chef world this means the transition from Mississippi Spring to Mississippi Summer. HERE WE GO Summertime and day three of the NEW Sweet mamas Summer menu, it`s a lip wrapper y`all!

I have a treat for y`all today with the plate lunch!! Are you ready?! The plate lunch for Friday will be Catfish Lafitte, a signature dish at the restaurant that taught me how to be a chef and also taught me a lot about life. This was hands down one of the most popular dishes we served, I cannot even begin to count how many of these I prepped, fried and sauced; but it was a lot!! And a random sidenote: this dish was John Grishams favorite when he lived in Oxford, so you KNOW it`s good. It goes a little something like this, hand-breaded Pride of the Pond Catfish, baptized in a Cayenne cream with Shrimp ( USA wild-caught) Scallions and smoky ham. The Side choices will be Buttery Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Collard Greens, Southern-Style Green Beans, Camellia Black-Eyed Peas, Butter Beans and Country Fried Cabbage. All of Sweet Mamas plates are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped Honey butter. Yes lawd!!

The dessert is Sweet Mamas Black Velvet Cake - Deep, Dark, Rich and Seductive Southern Layer Chocolate Cake with Summer Seedless Raspberry Jam and a frosting of Old-Fashioned Chocolate Buttercream.

Good morning and happy Thursday Water Valley!! What an absolutely beautiful day we had yesterday, just gorgeous!! It was, in fact the perfect day to roll with a NEW menu!! Today we want to shout-out one of our young people. Christina aka
'Little Red", because we are super proud of her. The young person has been working at Sweet Mamas since I opened; she started on June 13th as a busser and y`all, this was her first job and she was terrified. You would not know it to look at her today, because, well, she is a straight BOSS and running the whole show lol! What I want y`all to know is that Red has worked every weekend, arriving at 6:00 am, every holiday or break; as soon as she gets out of school, she comes to work. Well, last month she came in for her shift and tells us that she bought herself a nice little used truck, with HER MONEY!! BOOM!! It hits different when it is your money, but also, she has been saving this entire time and waiting for the right vehicle. We are so proud of her; it takes a lot of discipline for a teenager to not spend their paychecks as soon as they get them in hand. Thank you for your dedication, your hard work and your willingness to learn and always having a can do and positive attitude. The Sweet Mamas crew thanks you.

The Plate Lunch will be Chicken Divan Casserole. Y`all, this is one of those old-school throwback dishes I LOVE to make. Simple, yet elegant and nothing says Mamas love more than a creamy, cheese filled, lightly scented with sherry, kissed with curry and packed with poached chicken, sassy and saucy casserole!! Did I mention the CRISPY, buttery crackery, crumb topping?! This lovely dish is power loaded with fresh broccoli and mushrooms so we can feel good about eating it, right lol!!You want it, you need it, come and get it! The side choices will be FRESH collard greens, Black-Eyed Peas, Butter Beans, Southern-Style Green Beans and Country Fried Cabbage. All of Sweet Mamas plate lunches are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped honey butter.
