WE are READY in the Sweet Mamas kitchen, ready to cheer those Rebs to a victory and READY to get y`all FULL, FED and HAPPY!! Our doors open at 7:30 am: the Coffee is HOT, The Grill is LIT and the music is FLY!! We do all the hard work of cooking y`all that OLD-SCHOOL, Southern goodness that comes out of Sweet Mamas kitchen on Saturdays. No worries if Old-School is not your jam; we have plenty of NEW -SCHOOL breakfast treats for you on our menu. We look forward to feeding all of you today.

Good morning Vallians!! Today`s post will be short, it is the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a day that lives in the memory of everyone who witnessed the horror unfold on US soil. My wish for today is Peace for all the families and first responders whose people did not come home, and their lives were forever changed.

The Friday plate lunch will be Old-Fashioned Smothered Pork Chops with gravy and onions. The side choices will be Fresh Sweet Corn on the Cob, Butterbeans, Yukon Gold mashed potatoes with gravy, Black-Eyed Peas, Country-Style Green Beans, Fresh Collard Greens. All of Sweet Mamas plate lunches are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped Honey butter.

Good morning Water Valley!! Another beautiful late Mississippi Sunrise this morning, what a beautiful way to begin the day. Anyone else counting down the days to the official start of Fall, or just me?! I am praying that Fall got the memo and will be arriving on time and ready to go, because good lawd with this heat!! We are gonna make it, but we ain't happy about it!! The crew at Sweet Mamas wants to give a shout-out and a BIG welcome to our new neighbors on Main Street: Parlor 1858!! We are all SO excited to have y`all on Mainstreet and to have some FINE pizza back in our lives. I had the pleasure of trying a test pizza a couple of weeks ago and it was FANTASTIC!! I would have taken a photo but we inhaled it, that's how good it was y`all. Welcome friends!!

The Plate lunch for Thursday will be Miss Vetra`s Sunday Chicken and Dressing, served with Chicken Table Gravy and FRESH Cranberry Sauce. The Veggie sides are FRESH Collard Greens, Butter Beans, Country-Style Green Beans, Camellia Black-Eyed Peas, Hand-breaded Fried Mushrooms and Southern-Fried Cabbage. HOTTY TODDY y`all!! Whew, I had one nerve left on Sunday watching that game, but we pulled out a win! Personally, I just think the team needed to settle for a bit and find the rhythm; there is a whole lotta NEW for the team this year. Way to go REBS, we appreciate y`all bring home a W for the fans on a holiday weekend. I had a blast watching football this weekend, while my AC just hummed away trying to fight back the 110-heat Index. Sunday was ROUGH, come on FALL.

The Plate lunch for Wednesday will be Dixie`s Old-School Spaghetti; y`all, we have a following for this spaghetti, it just hits differently with that Old-School Grandma vibe. Made with Sweet Italian Sausage and ground beef. In a scratch-made Italian tomato sauce. and dusted with Pecorino Cheese. The side choices are FRESH Collard Greens, Country-Style Green Beans, Baked Cheesy Cauliflower, Sweet Corn on the Cob (this corn y`all, it is just ridiculously sweet and HUGE), Southern-Style Skillet Fried Cabbage with Bacon and onions and black-eyed peas; All of Sweet Mamas plate lunches are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped honey butter.

Wakey wakey friends and neighbors!! It is time to GET UP to GET DOWN to Sweet Mamas for our all-day breakfast and brunch service!! We open our doors at 7:30 am and we are FIRED UP and ready to cook y`all some of that OLD-SCHOOL deliciousness that you LOVE!! We are so proud of the product we put out of Sweet Mamas kitchen daily, but we get super jazzed up on Saturdays because we throw it all the way down. The goal on Saturday is to have y`all thinking about those Saturday mornings as a child, the ones that followed a sleep over at Grandmas house. Everyone in the house was trying to sleep in except for the children who woke up bright and early to turn that TV on and get those Saturday morning cartoons turned up full blast, ensuring that Grandma would wake up and fix you a good ole, from scratch, made with love breakfast. My grandmother never failed to deliver on this for me; while she would have loved to maybe sleep in until 7:00 or 7:30, little Dixie just wasn't having it, not one bit. And I will tell you what, while in hindsight I wish my Mia could have gotten the sleep she needed, I do not regret that early morning hours spent with her in the kitchen. When I cook on Saturdays, I always think of my grandmother, her food and her love and se guides me to share that love with all of you.

The special for Saturday will be Saturday Morning Cartoon OREO Pancakes - Old-Fashioned Butter Bathed, Crispy edged Buttermilk Griddle Cakes, loaded with crushed Oreos. Dressed with Sweet Mamas Chocolate Sauce, crushed Oreos, FRESH Strawberry sauce and rained on with powdered sugar. Served with a side of Country Breakfast Sausage.

Happy Labor Day Weekend y`all!! So, in the latest news of Fall on the horizon, there is no good news to report, not at all, not even a little bit. I made the mistake of looking at the forecast for next week and I immediately started to mumble and grumble and say things like why lord why. But we are gonna keep on pushing through this heat; I am going to need to start bringing a giant stick to work with me to beat Summer out of my back door!! I don't mean to be rude, because you know, born and bred Southern girl and all, but Summer, you have got to go. You have overstayed your welcome, go on now, GIT!! NOW, the good thing about this HOT Labor Day weekend is that my beloved Ole Miss Rebels will be kicking off the season in Nashville and I dang sure am not mad about that, not one bit. ARE YOU READY?!?! HOTTY TODDY Y`all!!

The Friday Plate lunch will be Dixie`s Southern Fried Catfish, made with Mississippi`s FINEST catfish, Pride of the Pond. Hand breaded in-house with our Sassy, Southern Fish Fry!! All plates are served with fresh lemon and Sweet Mamas scratch-made Charred Lemon and dill Tartar sauce. All of Sweet Mamas Plate lunches are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin with house-whipped honey butter. The Veggie sides are Diner Fries, Black-Eyed Peas, Fresh Mustard Greens, Country fried skillet Cabbage, Southern-Style Green Beans. Good morning Vallians!! I know that Fall does not actually begin until September 22, but let`s be honest, in Mississippi pretty much everyone will tell you that Fall begins September first; this is our rhythm and we are desperate for cool weather or the hope and anticipation of cool weather because Mississippi Summer has put it on us!! Well, we have been denied y`all, heat advisory all week. Lord, hear our prayers and send help in the form of a cool breeze and Summer, GET OUT, head North or East or West, but get away from us in The Sipp because we are SPENT.

The Special for Thursday will be Dixie New Orleans-Style Shrimp Po'boy -Wild-caught ROYAL RED shrimp (beautiful 16-20`s), hand-breaded with Sweet Mamas sassy seafood fry. Flash fried and stuffed inside a crusty French roll. Slathered with Sweet Mamas, from scratch, Charred lemon dill tartar sauce and full Cajun dressed with shredded lettuce, thin sliced late summer tomatoes, Dill pickle chips and baptized with Tabasco. Served with Dirty Chips.

The plate lunch will be Sweet Mamas Old-Fashioned Meatloaf, and it is FINE!! Let`s be honest, there is A LOT of BAD meatloaf in the world, and it makes me sad but THIS meatloaf right here, is moist, flavorful and hits all the Southern Woman feels! The side choices will be FRESH Mustard Greens, Black-Eyed Peas, Southern-Style Green Beans, Butterbeans, mashed potatoes with gravy, and Country Boy fried skillet cabbage with bacon and onions. All of our plate lunches are served with our Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped honey butter.

The dessert is Sweet Mamas Black Velvet Cake -Deep, Dark, Rich and Seductive Southern Chocolate Layer Cake with Summer Seedless Raspberry Jam and a frosting of Old-Fashioned Chocolate Buttercream.

It`s glorious September, friends and neighbors, college football kicks off this weekend. Fall is knocking on our door and WE ARE READY!! I really love Fall: the changing colors with all of the deep electric yellows, bright Autumn oranges and fiery reds making the leaves come to life, the cool mornings made for sipping coffee on the front porch, and of course all the beautiful and often forgotten about, Fall fruits and vegetables. Now, y`all know I LOVE some Pumpkin Spice; I have been putting Pumpkin Spice creamer in my coffee since the end of July if I am being completely honest, ain`t no shame in that game folks. But there are SO MANY more flavors that come to life in the fall besides pumpkin spice and we are going try and hit on as many of those flavors as we can in the Sweet Mamas Kitchen. Get excited, Get Hungry, and Get Ready. HOTTY TODDY!!

The Special for Wednesday will be Big Mama`s Nacho`s -Tajin dusted Texas Tortillas (red, white and blue), dripping in Sweet Mamas Cowboy Queso (taco-seasoned ground beef and Rotel tomatoes). Dressed and Dixiefied with shredded Berg, diced late summer tomatoes, Avocado scoop, Sour Cream and Dixie`s Pink pickled onions. Finished with our house-made Salsa Fresca. Jalapenos available upon request.

The Plate lunch will be Sweet Mamas Southern, Double Crust, Chicken Pot Pie!! We use Miss Vetra`s ALL BUTTER flakey pie crust recipe, load it with hand pulled chicken breast and fresh Southern vegetables, swimming in a mushroom sherry bechamel. The Vegetable choices will be Southern Butter Beans, Black-Eyed Peas, Country-Style Green Beans, Skillet Fried Country Boy Cabbage with bacon and onions, Fresh Mustard Greens and Candied Yams. All plate lunches come with a Southern Buttermilk Cornbread Muffin and our House-Whipped Honey Butter.

It`s Saturday and it is going to be a BEAUTIFUL sunshine filled day!!! It is also going to be a sunshine filled day that includes LUNCH at Sweet Mamas. My ride or die is out today and that means we are doing lunch for y`all; breakfast will be back on track NEXT Saturday. If you work out of town or live out of town and work M-F then today is your day folks. Sweet Mama burgers, Wedge Salads, The Angry Bird - a new fan favorite - and of course, Sweet Mamas fries are what we are serving up for y`all as well as our full lunch menu. We are getting down with the get down for real today!!

The Plate lunch will be Dixie`s Pulled Pork BBQ, sauced and sassy!! The sides will be black-eyed peas, Fresh Mustard greens, Sriracha Slaw, Country-Style green beans, Southern -style skillet squash with bacon and onions, Candied Yams, and Butterbeans. For TODAY ONLY, since we are doing BBQ, we decided to do butter grilled Texas Toast instead of Cornbread.

The Special will be Baja Tuna Salad Tostadas - This is NOT your mama's tuna salad; this is a FOODIE Tuna salad, nothing about it is average or ordinary. We DO NOT use canned or pouches of Tuna for this. It begins with Olive Oil and White W**e Poached Yellowfin Tuna and it ends with delicious. Of course, we add Duke`s Mayo but then we add celery, chopped pickled jalapenos; made in house, minced red onions, cucumbers, boiled eggs and FRESH Lime juice. Served on crispy Tostadas and dressed with lettuce, tomato, fresh avocado and our house-made Chamoy Sauce with a Tajin dusting! Trust me, you want it!
