Popsicle Peddler

Popsicle Peddler Kaedon's Popsicle Cart page. The summer of 24 I pushed my first cart & felt it was my best day ever. I got to meet new people while handing out popsicles.

It makes me so happy to bring smiles to others. No one is a stranger once I hand them a treat.

Got this pair of skull candy speakers awhile ago on sale at Costco. Getting them ready for tomorrow and hmmm I feel like I am not understanding the cables that came with them.

We're getting our gear together for tomorrow's Cruise the Shoug. Thankfully the temps won't be as high. We will be using my canopy but I just realized I don't have the weights for it any more. Yikes!!

Does anyone have some canopy weights to borrow for tomorrow's event?? Please 💜

I love this story so much!! 😭

When Joel Wegener retired from teaching science, he had one big dream. He wanted to help his two adult children, Mary Kate and Josh, find meaningful work. Both were born with Down syndrome, and like many families, they faced the challenge of finding the right job opportunities.

One day, Mary Kate said something that touched her father's heart. She smiled and said, "I wanna work with Papa." Those simple words inspired Joel to take action.

Instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity, he decided to create one. He bought a used ice cream truck from another family with special-needs children in Indiana for a little over $6,000. He spent time fixing it up and getting it ready for business.

In April 2021, the family proudly opened Special Neat Treats. Joel's wife, Freida, came up with the name, which was a fun play on the words "special needs."

The business quickly became a success. During its first year, they sold nearly 5,000 frozen treats. As more people heard their story, the truck became even more popular. By the following years, they had sold more than 10,000 treats.

But the greatest success was not the number of ice creams they sold. Working on the truck helped Mary Kate and Josh learn how to talk with customers, handle money, and become more confident and independent.

Joel hopes their story encourages other families to think creatively about jobs for people with disabilities. Their ice cream truck became much more than a business. It became a place where dreams, confidence, and opportunity came together, proving that with love and determination, small ideas can change lives.
