A lot of people have asked over the years where the name Cherry Ghost comes from.

The answer goes back to the Wilco song “Theologians,” from the album A Ghost Is Born. Near the end of the song, Jeff Tweedy sings: “I’m a notion; I’m all emotion; I’m a cherry ghost.” The former owners of the coffeehouse are huge Wilco fans, and that lyric stuck with them enough to become the name of this place.

Recently, we reached out on a whim to see if Wilco might be able to stop by while passing through on tour. They couldn’t make it in, but they still did something incredibly kind. They gave Cherry Ghost a shoutout to their fans and sent us tickets to the show.
We got to enjoy an amazing concert, meet wonderful people, and even send the band home with some Cherry Ghost merch!

Huge thanks to Wilco for the generosity, the music, and for becoming part of this coffeehouse’s story long before we were here. Special thanks to Vickie and Brian Sherman for their vision of Cherry Ghost and to our customers, baristas, and musicians for helping keep Cherry Ghost going all these years! ☕️✌️🎸
