We wanted to take a moment to feature our Sous Chef and Sushi Chef, Evan Horne. 🎉
We met Evan in the middle of Winter 2026 where he moved quickly from Line Cook, to Sous Chef and now a Sushi Chef. We have watched him grow as a human but also as a chef. It’s difficult to find a photo of Evan where he’s not focused on his work. We see him working relentlessly while he’s with us at 189 W. Main Street, and we hear about his work as a husband, a father, a farmer, a fisherman and a musician outside of work.
Get to know him and you might wonder, what doesn’t Evan do?
Evan has a community of loved ones who adore him, and we see it reflected here on social media. We see it when they come into the restaurant to pay him homage. People come back to taste his food and it’s not just because it's delicious.
See here’s the thing, when hands prepare the food that we eat, there is intention that goes into that food, and intention is not only savored on the taste buds, but also in the soul. His food is transcendent because he cares about it, and he cares about how you feel when you eat it. ✨💙
We are lucky because we have someone who puts their heart into the work that they do.
Thank you to the community that raised him to become so amazing. Thank you to his wife Angel for giving him love that sustains him on the good days and the bad ones. Thank you Evan, for being a part of Rice & River, for being a part of The Mulberry House, and for the work you continue to do on yourself to become better everyday. We admire you. 🙏
