Sitting outside is a vibe unto itself.

The lights overhead during the darkening of the sky, the chance that you catch the sunset, the entertainment of the river, its different moods and visitors anchored in.

We won’t deny that the view is fantastic.

But let’s say it rains, let’s say it’s chilly outside or too warm to endure--

We have a dining room that’s actually really cool, too.

Enter our dining room: there you can sit right in front of the sushi chefs. You can snag a table for 1, or 2, 4 or 10. The quaint space creates its own vibe as it fills up with others who are excited, interested and happy.

Soon, the small space is buzzing.

Rather sit in front of our bartenders? Well, I can’t blame you. They really provide the entertainment, keeping you satisfied while spinning around the bar to make drinks for the rest of us.

Up here, you can rest and relax or you can make it a quick stop. We meet you where you’re at.

We want you to come and grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail at 4pm at 4:30 and 5pm. ($8 sushi rolls are served between 4-5:30pm!)

We know that 6:30 can be a popular time to grab supper, just know it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to start early. That leaves time to stop at the other awesome businesses on Main Street. And heck, it leaves time for you to come back for seconds.

We are so excited to see what Autumn 2026 brings with more palatable rooftop temps. But don’t forget, hurricane season is going to lock in and when it rains, just know we can seat you inside.

This is our first entire calendar year that we will stay open so be prepared to continue dining with us even when the temperatures drop and the snow flies.

The name Prue has ancient Latin and English roots. From "Prudentia" in Latin, it refers to “Prudence” and “Wisdom”, in Middle English it means “Brave” and “Valiant.”

For many of you, I need not say more. You know Prue because he has waited on your tables for the past 7 years. He has served you, and made you comfortable when he dutifully hosted you and your loved ones. You know that he embodies the name that he was given, and we are all so lucky for it.

A native of New Hampshire, Prue has spent close to a decade carefully laying down his roots here in Eastern North Carolina, by cultivating relationships. If there’s one thing that’s important to him, it’s hospitality. He wants everyone to feel welcome, and the last thing he would ever want to hear about was someone feeling put off or left out.

Learning this about him made it easy to promote him to Assistant General Manager of The Mulberry House, and give him full reigns over Rice & River. We needed someone to embody the warm, kindness and professionalism that we seek to provide at 189 W. Main Street. He did just that.

We are so incredibly humbled to have him on our team. He has been a wonderful blessing.

We look forward to sharing him with you so that you too can experience a piece of his welcoming and friendly hospitality.

Let's give Prue a warm welcome! 🙏👏

We wanted to take a moment to feature our Sous Chef and Sushi Chef, Evan Horne. 🎉

We met Evan in the middle of Winter 2026 where he moved quickly from Line Cook, to Sous Chef and now a Sushi Chef. We have watched him grow as a human but also as a chef. It’s difficult to find a photo of Evan where he’s not focused on his work. We see him working relentlessly while he’s with us at 189 W. Main Street, and we hear about his work as a husband, a father, a farmer, a fisherman and a musician outside of work.

Get to know him and you might wonder, what doesn’t Evan do?

Evan has a community of loved ones who adore him, and we see it reflected here on social media. We see it when they come into the restaurant to pay him homage. People come back to taste his food and it’s not just because it's delicious.

See here’s the thing, when hands prepare the food that we eat, there is intention that goes into that food, and intention is not only savored on the taste buds, but also in the soul. His food is transcendent because he cares about it, and he cares about how you feel when you eat it. ✨💙

We are lucky because we have someone who puts their heart into the work that they do.

Thank you to the community that raised him to become so amazing. Thank you to his wife Angel for giving him love that sustains him on the good days and the bad ones. Thank you Evan, for being a part of Rice & River, for being a part of The Mulberry House, and for the work you continue to do on yourself to become better everyday. We admire you. 🙏

I call this the seat for the king and queen. Depends on your perspective but for me, this is the best seat in the house. It's in our lounge area and we call it table 93.

Sit front and center with the best view in the house, while eating sushi and sipping on a cocktail or mocktail.
