Meet our Smoke on the Water Roll; Smoked Salmon, Habanero Pimento Cheese, Cucumber, Pickled Onion, and North Carolina Duke's Mayo.

Take a trip back to December 1971, the band Deep Purple travels to Montreux, Switzerland to record a new album. While there, they attend a Frank Zappa concert. As the concert drew to a close, an audience member shot off a flare gun, causing the entire venue to catch fire and burn to the ground. Smoke rolled across the nearby Lake Geneva.

The next day, Deep Purple bassist, Roger Glover, woke up from a dream muttering "smoke on the water."

If you don't believe me, just listen to the song and you will recognize the epic riff that we are all so familiar with, and the story that goes along with it.

We would love to have seen you tomorrow night (06/13/2026) however our private event will need the entire indoors upstairs because of the heat advisory.

With that being said, Rice & River will not be opened for regular business tomorrow evening. We will remain open TONIGHT from 4p-9p.
