We’re proud to be one of the District’s top destinations for ancestral and traditional mezcal, served by the pour or crafted into cocktails with hand-pressed and freshly squeezed ingredients.

Stop in for happy hour, explore a few pours with dinner, or make an evening of both.

I hope in every lifetime it’s summer and we’re going out for elotes.

Because this is when corn is at its sweetest. When every ear deserves to be grilled over live fire, brushed with butter, slathered in smoked chile mayo, dusted with cotija, toasted corn, Mexican oregano, chile, and crystallized lime.

Summer is corn and messy hands season. Don’t miss it.

Sopesitos, those mouthwatering little pockets of joy, have a fascinating history that is a cherished part of Mexican cuisine!

ORIGINS: Sopesitos are believed to have their roots in pre-Columbian Mexico, with the ancient Aztec and Mayan civilizations. These societies used a base of maize (corn) to create flatbreads as a staple food.

CRAFTING SOPES: The word “sope” actually means “to thicken” in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs. Sopesitos are made by taking a small, thick circle of masa (corn dough), shaping it by hand into a shallow, round base, and then pinching up the edges to create a raised rim. This distinctive feature allows them to hold an array of delicious toppings.

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Sopesitos are not just a food; they’re a cultural symbol. They represent the rich and diverse culinary heritage of Mexico and the artistry of generations who have perfected their preparation. From their humble origins to becoming a beloved global sensation, these little masa delights truly are a taste of Mexico’s heart and soul.

Mondays just got a whole lot better.

Join us every other Monday at Amparo Fondita for Mezcal Mondays, our industry night in partnership with master mixologist and superstar bartender Lou Bernard of Mita .

Kicking off this limited-run series on July 6th, (sorry for the skip! Rammys are next Monday!) we’re featuring incredible mezcal producers, this time with Cinco Sentidos, and exploring their many expressions through flights, copitas, curated cocktails, street-style Mexican snacks, great music, and even better company.

Come sip, snack, and kick off the week with friends and good vibes.
