2020 brought us all inconceivable challenges but also showed us the incredible strength of our community.
Our restaurants pivoted each and everyday. We did our best to keep both our employees and customers safe while still serving quality food and creating good times. We’ve zoomed (who hasn’t), upped our delivery game, added menu items and hope we made even one meal just a little bit easier for our loyal fans.
Organizations that have been friends for years came to our aid - we worked with DC Central Kitchen, SOUL Program, Food Rescue DC, The Power of 10 and World Central Kitchen to help feed those in need and keep our staff and our businesses running. The people who had our backs.
There’s a lot of moments from this year that reminded us just why we love this business and what we do. While we can’t list them all, some stand out moments include-the couple that made an anonymous donation of $1,500 worth of pizzas and coffee to health care workers. The gentleman that walked in for a burger & fries, saw our “Bakers Against Racism” promotion and subsequently bought every single Rice Krispies treat so we could hand them out for free during the day. A regular that asked me if he could donate the equivalent of someone’s paycheck for 4 weeks. The friends that generously gave to our employee fund when we had to furlough so many of our dear staff. And let’s not forget my Executive Team member that offered to donate a proceed of their salary to help a fellow colleague.
As the year comes to a close, let’s take a pause to appreciate our incredible staff and customers that have truly sustained us in these difficult times. We couldn’t have made it without you. Let 2021 be the light we all need.
