Starting next week, we’re launching an Italian word of the week campaign. Stay tuned for more details. And rest assured, the words are gonna be a little more challenging than calamari …which has long been adopted into our vernacular.

Many of you have heard us express that we built out this restaurant ourselves.

We don’t mean the heavy construction, but we certainly enjoyed the tear down, which is an extremely cathartic experience as we prepare for each new restaurant journey.

This is owner Carolyn Papetti learning to tile for the first time, not well, but efficiently enough.

We drilled the holes in all of the glass bottles that provide characteristic privacy screens throughout Eddie on copper pipes. We purchased every water drillbit in the DMV in the fall of 2018.

Anytime you feel the energy of a mom and pop restaurant with a unique design, you can almost be certain that the owners contributed to the manual labor required to get the job done and open the doors to their livelihood.

It takes a dream, and a vision.. but memory blurs the lines of which one came first.

This is what 5014 Connecticut Ave NW looked like before we took over the lease in May 2018.

Our dream was to create a family, friendly Italian restaurant in our neighborhood, one our kids would be proud of.

Our vision was that Eddie would become a thriving neighborhood staple and anchor for our 5000 block of Connecticut Ave NW, one that attracted families, couples and young folks from many generations.

The Papettis and the Eddie team are taking a week off to reflect, relax and recuperate! We’ll all be back raring to go Tuesday, July 6.
Italian Bar remains open all week with an earlier closing time July 4th.
