There is something special about food that brings back memories of home.
Banana pudding was Dolly Parton’s favorite dessert. She grew up one of 12 children in the mountains of Tennessee, where treats weren’t something her family had all the time. Her mother, Avie Lee, would make homemade banana pudding for the family, and it became one of those foods Dolly never forgot.
Years later, she still talked about banana pudding and the memories of being in the kitchen with her mother, grandmother, and aunts. For her, those foods meant family, Sundays, church, singing, and being together.
I love that.
We made this banana pudding from scratch, and today it seems like the perfect thing to share in her memory.
Dolly never seemed to forget where she came from. No matter how famous she became, she continued to talk about her family, her faith, the mountains she grew up in, and the simple things that mattered to her.
So here’s a bowl of banana pudding for Dolly. 🤍
Thank you for the music, the laughter, the generosity, and for reminding us that you can go a long way in this world without forgetting home.
“I will always love you.” 🦋
