Hi Wartburg! I figured it was probably time I properly introduced myself.
I’m Lilly, the owner of Moco Yoga and Movement. The path to opening a little studio in East Tennessee was not exactly a straight line, so I wanted to share a little about how I got here. 😂
Before moving here, I spent about six years working professionally as an acrobat, aerialist, and stilt walker. Circus taught me an incredible amount about strength, mobility, body awareness, and what the human body is capable of when you ask it to do some very unusual things.
While performing full-time, I also taught, and the part I’ve always loved most about teaching isn’t the crazy tricks. It’s taking what I learned from years as a professional athlete and making it useful for regular, everyday bodies. Helping someone feel stronger, move with less hesitation, or simply feel more at home in their own body.
After retiring from circus, I packed up and spent about two years road-tripping around the country with my dog and cat, exploring as much of the beautiful and wonderfully varied landscape of the U.S. as I could.
Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with East Tennessee.
The mountains, the rivers, the trails, this small town, eventually I decided, why not make it home?
I’ve now been here for the better part of eight years. For five of those, many of you have known me through Tipsy Cow Ice Cream and Desserts, which has been such a fun and unexpected chapter of my life that I'm absolutely loving.
But while I love sharing my homemade ice cream with y’all, there was one thing I really missed:
Teaching movement.
So I finally decided it was time to come back to it. After asking around and realizing there really was interest, I opened MoCo Yoga & Movement right here in Wartburg!
The studio may have “Yoga” in the name, but what I really care about is helping people move, learn, explore, get stronger, and reconnect with their bodies. Yoga is one tool. Strength, mobility, breath, balance, Pilates-inspired work, play, and curiosity all have a place here too.
And if you’ve been thinking, “I’m probably not the kind of person who goes to a yoga studio…” you might be exactly the kind of person I built this place for.
I’d love to get to know more of you, too. How long have you lived in Morgan County, and what brought you here? Tell me in the comments, are you born and raised here, or a transplant like me?
