You’ve probably sat beside part of our wedding.

Those doors hanging all over Beautiful Whirl’d weren’t originally restaurant decor.

It started when BRITE, right next door, had a bunch of old doors in their basement and randomly asked Mary and me if we wanted them.

Mary immediately said yes.

I asked what she was going to do with them.

She had absolutely no idea. 😂 She just wanted them.

Then we started planning our wedding.

We got married June 30, 2018, on the property we were renting at the time. The ceremony was in a pine grove that we turned into our own little chapel—benches made from logs and planks, old reclaimed windows hanging between the trees, a cross, and whatever else we could create ourselves.

The reception was just outside the grove, and we needed something to separate it from the neighbor’s property.

Suddenly Mary knew why she needed those doors.

They became a wall.

But as the wedding got closer, Mary was getting anxious, and I told her she needed to art.

So the wall became an art gallery.

She started covering the doors with song lyrics and Scriptures that meant something to us. Then we realized there was no possible way she was finishing all of them before the wedding.

So I jumped in.

Then we realized there was no possible way we were finishing them before the wedding.

So friends jumped in too. 😂

By the wedding, we had 18 doors forming this giant, weird, homemade outdoor gallery for our guests.

Afterward, we actually displayed them temporarily at Beautiful Whirl’d as one of the art shows we used to host. Then they went into our garage.

And sat there.

Until 2020.

When the pandemic shut us down, we remodeled the restaurant and decided it was finally time to give the doors a permanent home.

Today, 17 of the original 18 are still hanging inside Beautiful Whirl’d.

The 18th was purchased by a customer. After somebody noticed the empty spot it left behind, another person donated a painted door to fill it.

So if you’ve ever sat at one of our tables and wondered why there are a bunch of old doors covered in lyrics, Scripture, paintings and random spoons hanging beside you…

Now you know.

They were part of our wedding before they were part of Beautiful Whirl’d. ❤️

This table is basically our entire business model.

One person wants a salad big enough to need its own ZIP code.

Someone else wants a hot, cheesy panini.

Somebody just wants a smoothie.

And nobody has to negotiate where to eat.

That’s the part of “something for everyone” that matters to us.

It’s not about having a giant menu just to have a giant menu.

It’s about the healthful eater, the comfort-food person, the picky kid, the smoothie-only friend and the “I’ll know when I see it” person all being able to sit at the same table.

Because eating together is better than agreeing on what everyone should eat.

Please grab a smoothie before your hearing. Courtroom beverages are how we plan to make our money back on this arrangement.

BREAKING NEWS: TRUMBULL COUNTY COURTHOUSE SCHEDULED FOR DEMOLITION FOR DATA CENTER

The Trumbull County Courthouse is scheduled for demolition early September following a committee meeting that voted unanimously to replace it with a new data center. "It's time for change, for better or for worse, and they're giving us a ton of money to put it here" one committee member noted, who requested not to be named. When asked how the data center would affect local residents and small businesses, the committee member told us to "move somewhere else if you don't like how things work around here". All future court proceedings will take place in the Beautiful Whirl'd dining area until further notice.

There are recipes for almost everything we make.

There isn’t one for making people feel welcome.

You can write down how much of every ingredient goes into a smoothie.

You can teach someone exactly how long to press a panini.

You can make checklists for opening, closing, cleaning, prepping, stocking… all of it.

But there’s no checklist for noticing when someone walks in having a rough day.

No timer that tells you when a regular needs a little conversation.

No recipe for remembering somebody’s name, laughing with their kids, or making a first-time customer feel like they’ve been here before.

That part comes from people.

Food matters. A lot.

But the longer we do this, the more convinced we are that people come back for more than what was on the plate.

And that’s something we never want to automate.

Apparently we owe this bowl an apology.

In the last 365 days, you’ve ordered 833 Everyone’s Favorite Bowls.

Eight. Hundred. Thirty. Three.

And somehow, we don’t talk about it nearly enough.

Maybe that’s because it doesn’t need much help. People order it in the morning. At lunch. In the afternoon. Whenever the craving hits.

It has quietly become one of those Beautiful Whirl’d items that people just keep coming back for, making it our seventh-best-selling menu item…

So today, Everyone’s Favorite Bowl gets the spotlight it apparently earned a long time ago. 😂

Our sign leaves out the most important thing.

Quick. Casual. Crazy Delicious.

All true.

But a sign can only tell you so much.

It can’t tell you about the regular who walks in and gets greeted by name.

It can’t tell you about two friends who planned to grab lunch and somehow stayed for two hours.

It can’t tell you about the person who came in alone and realized pretty quickly that nobody here thought that was strange.

It can’t tell you about the conversations, the laughter, the first dates, the family lunches, the meetings, the celebrations, or the really hard days when somebody just needed somewhere that felt a little lighter.

We make smoothies, paninis, salads, tacos, waffles and a whole lot more.

But the thing we’re really trying to make is a place where people want to be.

Apparently that was too much to fit on the sidewalk sign.
