Our owners have a ton of knowledge about coffee and they are very passionate. They work regular bar shifts alongside the employees. There is a great sense of community and team-oriented work culture that is seriously very wholesome. We try to make our space warm and welcoming for both customers and employees alike.

We treat people like human beings and our staff seem to be happy here. We just received a "Top Local Workplace Award" from homebase which is earned via anonymous feedback and only given to businesses that have good systems for support and high levels of employee satisfaction.

Introducing: Taylor's Signature Saturdays

We're taking some inspiration from world barista competitors (yes there is a global competitive stage for coffee).

This is The Professor - a truly unique coffee science experience. The bottom phase has 3 shots of espresso, sage syrup, whole milk, and fresh lemon juice. The acidic coffee and lemon juice curdle the milk. As the curds form they capture pigment and bitter compounds from the coffee. You then run it through a paper filter. We are left with a crystal clear, thick, golden solution that smells like a latte and tastes like a chocolate lemon truffle. We float cascara (coffee fruit) aquafaba on top and garnish with pieces of cascara.

Come by Saturdays from 8 am-noon to enjoy this beverage because Taylor is the only person currently cleared to make it. It is not cheap at $16 but that is because of the labor and ingredients involved. This is a level of coffee almost no one gets to enjoy except barista competitors and judges.

Come by early on Saturdays if you want one of these elixirs. Fair warning - Taylor might ask you a few questions before serving The Professor to you. This drink is not for everyone and we want to make sure you have a good experience at our cafe. Tag a friend who likes high-end coffee. We bet this is something they've never had.

Have you seen the elusive latte swan? They can be found in their natural habitat here at Contra Costa Coffee. Latte art is mostly garnish (taste is way more important) but the nice thing about it is that you cannot free-pour latte art unless the milk is steamed really well. If you see latte art it is a good indicator that the barista knows how to steam properly.

We got a new espresso grinder! If you thought our coffee was good before just wait until you try it now. While our old grinder was good, this one is incredible. For you coffee nerds out there, this is the Mahlkonig E80S. It has extra large 80 mm burrs. Large burrs are important because they generate less heat from friction which translates to improved cup quality. You really don't want to heat up the grounds until you begin extraction.
