Today we celebrate National Connecticut Day by honoring a true CT original: the Grinder 🥪❤️

Though the exact origins are unknown, many sources have linked the creation of the word 'grinder' to the one and only Benedetto “Benny” Capaldo, a New London resident who has been reported in many articles like FoodRepublic, CTInventor, and WELI. That working‑class classic became the grinder we all know and love.

As a Connecticut Italian deli that’s been family owned and multi‑generational for over 100 years, we’re proud to keep that tradition alive every day with warm, crackly bread, layers of thick‑sliced meats and cheeses, crisp lettuce and tomatoes, and that unmistakable Nardelli's flavor.
