Roots and Wings Village

Roots and Wings Village Conscious parenting community based in Walden, NY

04/10/2026

There’s something children know how to do…
that we’re slowly forgetting how to protect.

As Gordon Neufeld reminds us, play isn’t about outcomes or performance.

It’s chosen.
It’s open-ended.
It’s where kids get to *be*—
to move emotions, take risks, create, connect…
without pressure or expectation.

And right now, that kind of play is disappearing.

Today, we’re making space for it.

We’re opening up Roots & Wings for a FREE Pop-Up Adventure Playground—part of the community we’re building here.

🗓 Today | ⏰ 1–4pm
📍 51 Muktananda Marg, Walden, NY

Think: cardboard, paint, mud, water, loose parts…
kids building, imagining, getting messy.
Adults exhaling a little.
A glimpse of what it feels like to grow up (and raise kids) in community.

Come as you are. Stay as long as you’d like.
Opening circle around 1:30, closing around 3:30.

If you’ve been curious about Roots & Wings, this is a really simple, low-pressure way to step in.

We’d love to have you 🤍

RSVP: Pop up Adventure Playground!

We had such a fun and busy day in our parent-child class! 💚

Our little learners explored an ABC & animals sensory bin, digging, scooping, and discovering hidden treasures while building fine motor skills and curiosity. We also got creative painting shamrocks, mixing our own green by combining yellow and blue and experimenting with different tools and textures.

During circle time, we sang familiar movement songs and learned a few new spring favorites. We read Two for Me, One for You and talked about sharing, then enjoyed the silly story There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover! 🍀

We made sure to get outside too! Even with the chilly weather, the children loved exploring, matching numbers with rocks, drawing with chalk, and even discovering some ice along the way.

It was a wonderful day full of creativity, learning, and play. Thank you for being part of our community! 💛

What does it mean for a child to truly communicate with the world around them?

This week our Saplings began settling into the rhythm of our time together — stories, nature journals, sit spots, and collaborative art.

So much of our work here is about helping children notice, wonder, and find ways to express what they see.

As Loris Malaguzzi said:
“Our task is to help children communicate with the world around them—this is the true function of education.”

We do have a few remaining openings in our Saplings class (ages 7–8) and would especially love to welcome a few more girls to help balance the dynamic of the group.

If your child enjoys being outdoors, noticing the small details in nature, and expressing what they see through art and conversation, this group may be a beautiful fit.

Feel free to reach out to learn more.

Happy first week back to our village!

Who needs toys?!

The joy of watching the Sprouts class of 5-7 year olds explore the land, with the most captivating expressions, made my whole week!

This class is FULL, but we do still have 2 SPOTS open for girls in our Saplings 7-8 crew and 2 SPOTS in our Oaks 9-10 crew.

We are a nature based, heart centered, mostly child led learning community in Walden , NY on 300 acres of sacred land.

Sound dreamy? It is!

🌸 Spring Session Kickoff! 🌸

We had such a wonderful time at our first Parent & Child class of the spring session! It was so special to see all the little ones exploring, playing, and connecting alongside their grown-ups.

From songs and movement to lots of smiles and sweet moments, it was the perfect way to welcome spring together. 🌷

Here are a few photos from our first day — we’re so excited for the rest of the session! 💛
