Our department consists of 25 staff members. These highly trained and committed people produce food that nourishes our students, staff, and parents. We are on target to serve 500,000 meals this year with an additional 600,000 transactions as ala Carte. The Café #110 Food Service staff is committed to providing healthful, nutritious meals to our students. The men and women who prepare and serve sch
ool meals help nurture our children through their daily interaction and creativity. Every year our staff attends culinary classes and other programs to promote and expand their knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). We are constantly working to develop recipes that are kid friendly and that teach students about the benefits of eating healthy. School nutrition employees must balance many roles and follow numerous federal, state and local regulations to ensure safe and healthy meals are available in schools. They are trained sanitation and food safety experts and must manage financially self-sufficient programs. We provide nutrition education to students, as well as healthy catering services to our community. Staff is encouraged to use their creativity to make the cafeteria a fun and welcoming place all year long and to market our program to our community. The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day. Children depend upon school lunch for 1/3 to 1/2 of their daily nutritional intake. The Waconia school lunch program is a non-profit organization providing more than 3,000 high-quality, low-cost meals to our students every day. The staff is dedicated to feeding children safe and nutritious meals and devoted to protecting and enhancing children’s health and wellbeing through school meals and sound nutrition education.
