Hello Friends of the Copper Nickel on the Course.
Over the past couple months, we have been working with the City of Virginia to transition the Copper Nickel on the Course to a seasonal operation.
This decision comes after looking closely at many years of winter operations at the golf course. Full-service restaurants that remain open throughout the entire calendar year at golf courses are relatively uncommon, particularly at facilities in northern Minnesota.
After many conversations, we agreed that shifting to a seasonal model gives the golf course restaurant in general, and the Copper Nickel on the Course as the current tennant, the best opportunity to remain a strong and sustainable part of the Virginia Golf Course for years to come.
We also want to personally apologize for the way this information initially reached our community.
Discussions regarding this change were still underway, and a final agreement had not yet been completed when information about a possible winter closure became public. That is not how we wanted our employees, customers, community partners, or supporters to learn about such an important change. We are genuinely sorry that it happened in this manner.
With that said, we are now able to share our plans with you directly.
🍂 Our final day of the 2026 season will be Saturday, October 3rd.
Going forward, our plan is to work with the City to reopen May 1st each year and remain open throughout the golf season.
While we will be saying “see you in the spring” rather than goodbye, we know this will be a change, especially for those of you who have supported us throughout the winter months. We cannot thank you enough for that support.
And we certainly aren’t going to quietly close the doors on such an incredible season!
🎸 Payback will be joining us Saturday, October 3rd, from 6:00 to 10:00 to help us celebrate one final night of restaurant and bar service for the season. We hope you’ll come out, enjoy some great food and drinks, and listen to some great music.

Thank you to our customers, our golfers, our leagues, our community organizations, our incredible staff, our regulars, Steve Fingeroos and crew, and everyone who has supported the Copper Nickel on the Course. We are incredibly grateful for the relationships we’ve built here and excited about what this seasonal model will allow us to do moving forward.
So come on out and enjoy the last couple weeks of restaurant and bar service at the Copper Nickel on the Course.
