Have you ever been to the Wooden Spoon Restaurant ? Well It's out on a two-lane highway (st rt 127 North) where the GPS gets a little quiet.
You almost miss it — it is a old ugly green building with a hand-painted sign that just says The Wooden Spoon Restaurant or The Annie Oakley Restaurant on the other sign. The Annie Oakley sign has been hanging for about 70 or so years. We have never had the heart to take it down. There's a gravel lot, a couple of old pickup trucks, a some old house trailers and a couple houses also little cottages behind the restaurant. When you come inside don't forget to ask about the pictures of the old Annie Oakley restaurant back in the early fifties. They are sure something to see. And how Time has changed.

Inside, it's small. Maybe 10 tables and six chairs at the counter. The vinyl seats are patched with tape in the same spot everyone sits. The walls are covered in family photos, faded and a chalkboard that says "If we don't have it, you don't need it."

It smells like coffee that's been on since 5 a.m. and fresh biscuits. Behind the counter is Terri or Miranda Flora or Amanda Borem , Phil Gehron or one of our daughters , or granddaughters — someone who calls you hon whether they've met you or not. Most times you will find Terri on the grill. Her dishwasher John is washing dishes in the back. No one wrote a formal menu because no one needed to. It's all family recipes, written on stained index cards and taped to the inside of the kitchen cabinet.

What they serve:

Breakfast all day: Buttermilk biscuits made from Great-Grandma's recipe, so tall they fall apart when you touch them, smothered in sausage gravy that takes an hour to make right. Fried potatoes with onions that have been on the flat top long enough to get those crispy edges.

Lunch is whatever's ready: The meatloaf is Terri s mother's — half beef, half pork, ketchup glaze caramelized on top. Chicken and noodles thick as a stew, served over mashed potatoes. A cheeseburger where the patty is hand-formed that morning. And green beans cooked slow with ham hock until they're soft and salty and sweet.

Pie is non-negotiable. It rotates. Apple with lard crust that flakes everywhere, coconut cream with toasted peaks, chocolate chess that wobbles just right, and strawberry-rhubarb in early summer when the neighbor brings over a bucket from his garden. (true)

Everyone gets water without asking. Coffee gets refilled before you realize it's low. The kids' menus are on the back of old paper placemats and there's a jar of broken crayons in the middle of the table.

Nobody's in a hurry. The farmers come in after feeding, the truckers stop because they've known about it for years, a family in a minivan pulls over because the kids need a bathroom and stays for an hour.

You don't pay for fancy. You pay for a plate that tastes like someone's Sunday kitchen — because it is. If you have never made it out please take the time. You will be surprised. Our hours are 8:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday we do dine in and Carry out our phone number is 937-548-9770. We are located at 9690 us 127 Greenville ohio. We are a mile off the road on the right past beamsville before you get to rt242.
