Our August Sonic Spotlight winner takes us back to one of Chevrolet’s most iconic designs, the 1955 Bel Air. Owned by Jim Huffman of Versailles, Missouri, this classic combines the timeless style of the Tri-Five era with a handful of modern upgrades that make it just as enjoyable to drive as it is to look at.
The Bel Air’s beautiful two-tone paint and interior were completed back in 1990, and the car has continued to turn heads ever since. Earlier this year, Jim brought the car into the modern era with several carefully chosen upgrades, including an LS engine swap, power brakes, and air conditioning. The result is a classic Chevrolet that retains its original character while offering improved performance, drivability, and comfort.
Adding to the car’s unique appearance are its oversized steel wheels, including deep-dish wheels in the rear for a more aggressive stance. The wheels were painted to complement the car’s two-tone color scheme and are finished off with original Chevrolet hubcaps, giving the car a distinctive combination of custom style and classic Chevrolet authenticity.
With its iconic ’55 styling, decades-old paint and interior, and tasteful modern upgrades, Jim Huffman’s Bel Air is a great example of how a classic can evolve without losing what made it special in the first place.

Missouri's favorite monthly car cruise is back.

We are gonna go out with a bang and you don't wanna miss it!! Sonic Summer Nights - End of Year Bash 2026 will kick off the afternoon at 2pm with a 50mile cruise. Then live music from Raising Cane LOTO will be jammin out from 6-10pm. Special guest JBR Nitro will be here to give everyone a in person experience of a nitro fuled dragster. Then we will have fireworks at dark to top things off.

Load the family up and come enjoy as fun family friendly free evening.
