"The song is ended, but the melody lingers on." -Irving Berlin
It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the end of our beloved Vancouver Pizza Company on December 31, after almost 28 years of business. We have fought hard this year but we just cannot overcome the obstacles that have come our way.
When we experienced the 2006 fire that resulted in a total loss of the restaurant, we felt grief. It was the most profound loss our family had ever experienced to that point, but we moved through it together, coming out stronger than before. In that fire we found sadness, but we also found joy and a sense of purpose. That joy and purpose was found because of YOU - our customers, our employees, our community...our family. We are painfully aware that the permanent closing of our business will cost us more than our livelihood; we will experience a loss that is personal to each member of our family. Each of our family is experiencing such grief right now at that loss and we would actually ask that you keep us in your prayers please as we travel into uncharted territory.
Many employees, including our children, grew up in Vancouver Pizza Company, learning life skills and lessons that are incredibly valuable and shaping. The dedication, trust and loyalty they have had is unsurpassed. Bonds have been formed that went beyond being a staff - they are our family and have constantly shown us that they will stand beside us no matter what transpires. Even though our children, and several of our employees, have moved on from Vancouver Pizza into careers of service to others and to our country, we know that they are still there for us.
We have also been blessed to experience the blossoming of relationships with our customers - relationships that have grown into support, connection, and a strong sense of community. This we will miss terribly, and more than words can convey. We are already experiencing the grief that comes with so many facets of loss, and it is deep and heavy; but we feel this profound grief because our experience has been so profound. And for that, we are grateful.
This is the legacy we revel in and will continue to hold fast to as our family navigates the uncertainty ahead. Karen's belief has always been that, for our employees, Vancouver Pizza should be a place of learning and shaping and growth, so that it may be a "stepping stone" into a career of meaning and success. For our customers, our family has always held the conviction that if treated like family, our customers will grow into our family. We feel so much pride in knowing that our family fulfilled that belief and made a difference in people's lives. And we want you to know that you have made a difference in ours.
We count ourselves incredibly fortunate to have been allowed a place at your table, but more importantly we are amazed at how we have been welcomed into your lives. Thank you for the amazing memories, and thank you for making this experience so meaningful to us. You all have truly been an incredible gift!
