In the 1940s, a 14-year-old boy named Aldo Biale started selling his family’s homemade Zinfandel to neighbors out of a Napa Valley farmhouse. To keep the authorities off his trail, customers would call the shared party line and ask for “a Black Chicken.” That bootleg wine became a legend, and that legend became Robert Biale Vineyards.
What makes Biale so special is what they chose to do with that legacy. In a Napa Valley built on Cabernet Sauvignon, they’ve spent 30+ years championing Zinfandel from heritage vines, some planted as far back as the 1880s, and made it one of California’s most celebrated bottles.
On June 10, Chef Lydia brings a five-course menu to the table alongside an evening of Biale wines. Scallop crudo, wild boar cannelloni, lamb braciole, and more, each paired with wines from one of Napa’s most storied producers.
