🍕 Our Kindergarteners Took Over Dee Maria's!
Valley Cottage learners rose to the occasion during their delicious walking field trip this week to Dee Maria’s Pizzeria. Before stepping into the kitchen, they leveled up their skills in class by creating their own pretend pizzas using colorful construction paper toppings like broccoli, pineapple, peppers, pepperoni and of course EXTRA cheese (yellow yarn). It was the perfect recipe for building excitement before taking on the real deal. 🥦🍍🫑🍕
Once inside the pizzeria, our little chefs got the full pizza parlor experience from start to finish. Dee Maria’s owner, Brian Duffy, taught students the “secret sauce” behind pizza making — including the surprising importance of heavily flouring the pizza paddle so the pie could slide seamlessly right into the oven. Students stretched and tossed dough sky-high for the perfect base, carefully layered sauce, cheese and toppings in just the right order and watched their delicious creations bake to sizzling perfection in the 500-degree brick oven. Talk about a SLICE of learning! 👩🍳✨
We asked the class how they would rate the pizza—and the experience—on a scale of 1 to 5 stars and their answers were hands down unanimous: 10 stars (or at least a million)! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Crust us… by the end of the trip, every kindergartener was officially a pizza pro. A huge thank you and PIE-Five to our wonderful teachers, chaperones and the entire team at Dee Maria’s for making this experience extra special for our students.
