Sixteen years ago, we opened at 540 Valley Road with a simple belief: serve authentic British-style Indian cuisine, and people will come.

You came. You brought your families. You celebrated anniversaries and birthdays. You made us your Friday night tradition. You recommended us to friends who became regulars themselves.

Brick Lane isn't ours. It's yours.

Thank you for sixteen years. We're just getting started.

Your father will say "Don't make a fuss." Ignore him.

He has spent decades perfecting the art of wanting nothing. Ask what he'd like for Father's Day, and he'll shrug. Ask where he wants to eat, and he'll say "anywhere's fine" — the three least true words in the English language.

After seventeen years of Father's Days, we know what the man who wants nothing actually wants: a long Sunday lunch. The whole family at one table. A dozen dishes arriving at once on one silver platter, so nobody negotiates the menu — and he will finish the lamb first and pretend he didn't.

This Sunday, June 21st, the Weekend Thali runs all day. $19.99 per person, vegetarian or non-vegetarian. We're open noon to 11 PM, so lunch can run as long as his stories do.

He fed you for years. Sunday, return the favor properly.

Most restaurants don't make it to year three. We're on year seventeen.

The restaurant business is brutal arithmetic. Six in ten close before their third birthday. The ones that survive do it the only way possible: people come back.

For seventeen years, people have come back to 540 Valley Road. Through recessions, through a pandemic, through the rise and fall of a dozen food trends we politely ignored.

We didn't survive on novelty. We survived on Chicken Tikka Masala that tastes the same brilliant way it did in 2009, and naan pulled from the tandoor minutes before it reaches your table.

Seventeen years. One address. One standard.

Five Reasons Montclair Falls in Love With Us
They come for the food. They return for everything else.

Our guests tell us: The late hours changed everything—finally, curry after 10 PM. The thali is the best value in Essex County. The new space feels like a getaway. The BYOB policy makes celebration affordable. And the lamb shank? Worth driving across town for.
We didn't reopen. We reinvented. Come discover why Montclair is talking.

He has spent decades perfecting the art of wanting nothing.

Ask him what he'd like for Father's Day, and he'll shrug. Ask where he wants to go for lunch, and he'll say "anywhere's fine" — the three least true words in the English language.

But here is what we know after seventeen years of Father's Days: the man who claims to want nothing would love this.

A long Sunday lunch. The whole family at one table. A platter of a dozen dishes arriving at once, so nobody has to negotiate the menu. He will absolutely finish the railway curry first and pretend he didn't.

This Father's Day, don't ask him what he wants. Just book the table.

Sunday, June 21. Brick Lane, 540 Valley Road, Montclair.
