New name, same soul!

You spoke, we listened. One very common theme that ran through all of the comments over the last week is that Standard Diner’s vibe was something special, and the thought of losing that caused a lot of uncertainty for our loyal guests. So we’ve decided to leave the flying cows off the wall and stick to our grown-up, downtown vibe for this location. We’re going with a light touch in the hopes of not fixing what wasn’t broken.

We’ll be offering Standard Diner’s meatloaf, jalapeño poppers, and the deviled egg cobb exclusively at this location, along with a bigger cocktail menu. If you’re dismayed to see something that you love gone from the menu, fear not. This is only the first iteration, and we will be incorporating more Standard Diner items into the menu as capacity limits lighten and business increases. And if you really want something you miss from the old days, ask! We’ll make it for you if we have the ingredients. Our motto has always been to say yes before we even know the question.

We hope to see you in the old familiar under a new flag, and here’s hoping we pass the vibe check.

Come join us as we open our new Range Café on Central Avenue tomorrow, Friday the 11th at 11am!

We’re going for more of a downtown vibe at this location, in keeping with Standard Diner’s spirit. We’ll also be featuring some favorite menu items from the Diner (like the meatloaf!) and a bigger cocktail menu exclusively at this location for the time being. As seating capacity increases, keep an eye out for more Freight House and Standard Diner classics to make their way onto the menu.

We’re located at 320 Central SE and have plenty of parking in the back lot, along with tons of patio seating and a full bar. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve done with the space!

It's always been our belief that it's the very last table of the day that defines you as a restaurant. You should be able to get the exact same experience at closing time that you would at the beginning of service, and if we can manage that, then we're doing alright. End-to-end, start-to-finish quality has always been our guiding star, and we still believe in that.

If you have any uncertainty about coming in for these last few days, please don't. We will still deliver the same amazing experience that you've come to expect from us. Our last seating is 9pm Monday night, and we hope to see you between now and then.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

The Bad: It is with great sadness that Standard Diner will be closing its doors for good after dinner service on Monday, September 7th. We have had an amazing run over the last 14 years. In 2006 Standard Diner opened its doors in the up and coming area of East Downtown. The first two years were a struggle as our guests couldn't quite figure out the concept of a "finer diner". It took a visit from Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives to put Standard Diner on the map. We were lucky to enjoy another amazing eleven years making friends with both our neighbors and cross-country guests alike. Then came COVID 19 and we saw downtown Albuquerque shut its doors. It gave us a lot of time to think about what our next steps would be. Something good was on the horizon!

The Good: On Friday the 11th, our doors will reopen as The Range Cafe. You may not know this, but we have been sister restaurants with the Range ever since we opened. COVID has made us look at how we can survive the future of restaurants and felt that becoming The Range Cafe was a smart choice. It will allow us to operate our restaurants as one concept.

All is not lost, however. We know that Standard Diner had amazing food, as did our other, recently closed restaurant, Freight House Kitchen + Tap. We are combining the best of all three menus into our new Range Cafe menu. We have some exciting new design changes in the works, one of which is a new permanent patio expansion and the other is a big secret that will be coming in the near future. Something ugly had to happen though!

All is well...our same friendly, familiar staff looks forward to serving you with our great new menus. We'll be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. We'll always have great cocktails and desserts to compliment your meal. Change is always scary, but the silver lining of 2020 is that we are facing the future with more resolve and courage than we ever thought possible. Join us on our journey forward, unfettered by fear and uncertainty. We can do this.

We've expanded our patio, and, wow! What a view! We now have 18 tables outside to better serve you. Come dine with us tonight and try some of our featured Burque Tiki drinks or a craft cocktail while you enjoy the view of downtown Albuquerque with our classic entrees and refreshing salads.

We are incredibly thankful for the generous donation made by an anonymous community member. This last week we delivered 30 boxed meals to UNMH heath care workers. We would also like to thank all of the heath care workers who are on the front line during these uncertain times!
