Older children going without an adult should go with friends, stick to familiar, well-lit areas, and have a set return time.

A few ways to get ready:

- Keep an emergency kit with water, flashlights, batteries, and basic supplies.
- Know how to shut off your home’s utilities.
- Secure outdoor furniture and other items before severe weather.
- Keep important documents and emergency contacts somewhere easy to access.
- Review your homeowners insurance with me so you understand your coverage.

If a storm brings down a tree, stay clear of any downed power lines and contact your utility company.
