Most of us have heard this verse before, but a couple verses before it may help you understand it a little more. Zechariah is having a vision of a gold lampstand with a bowl on top and "seven channels to the lamps" (vs. 2). There was also an olive tree on each side. People used to have to manually pour oil, which took time and effort. Here, the 7 channels represent the Lord's continuous, divine supply of oil. It's no longer by human effort, but the Holy Spirit. The 2 olive trees represent God's anointed ones, Joshua and Zerubbabel. God supplies them with what they need to do His will. If you feel called to do something, lean on God and the abundance of oil He pours on us! It has nothing to do with our strength, but everything to do with His. Remember His never-ending streams of oil and His power He gives for us to carry out His plan!

This verse can be a little confusing if you skim over it. Why is God blessing a people that have rejected Him and forgotten Him in their time of need? They have been building their own kingdom instead of focusing on God's. They didn't turn to Him when their work produced poor results. But they later REPENTED and OBEYED, and started building God's temple (1:12). Yes, they sinned. But they also came back to God. It doesn't matter what you've done; what matters is if you come back to the One who forgives what you've done. God doesn't see you as a filthy sinner. If you've accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God sees you through His blood--His perfect sacrifice that took away our sins (Col. 3:3). Don't beat yourself or anyone else up for sinning; we all sin. Have grace because you were shown grace beyond measure, and love beyond comprehension.

Where do you go when you feel weak? If you go to anything or anyone besides God, the strength you may receive will only be temporary. I've never understood what having feet like a deer really meant until a couple days ago. But it means to have divine sure-footedness, agility, and unshakable strength. When we go to God, He guides us and gives us confidence to go where He's calling us. He gives us speed to go. And He provides us with a strength that is unbreakable. That is what it means to have feet like a deer--we can go places fast and efficiently, making a difference for the Kingdom of God. We can rise above the hardships of our life by seeking Him first and using the strength He provides. If you're ever in need of an empowering moment, go to God and speak His truth over you; He will give you something to make you feel strong in the midst of your weakness.

What a comfort it is to know God never fails. When our days don't go like we planned or expected, we can rest in knowing God didn't fail; whatever we wanted that didn't happen simply wasn't a part of His plan for that day. God is perfect; He could never do wrong. We can plan all we want, but if it doesn't go our way, it wasn't meant to be. It's easy to think God is late or He messed up, but His timing is perfect. It may feel like a long time waiting for us, but He sees what would happen if we got that thing in our timing. He loves us, so He protects us from our own will and plans. The closer to God you get, the more your plans will align with His. So your plans may actually succeed, but it will still be in His timing, because that's the perfect moment for anything to happen.

Daniel knows to go to the Lord when trouble comes, so why didn't he? Verse 14 says "the LORD our God is righteous in everything He does, yet we have not obeyed Him." We do this a lot. We know the truth about God, but we don't live in it. We know He can help us out of our mess and guide us to do incredible things, but we often reject that invite because we're comfortable in our sin. We don't want to step out into the unknown and uncomfortable. Knowing God's truth and not walking in it is exactly what the Devil does, which is why it's so hard for us because he's the one who tempts our flesh. Living in a sinful world is hard, but if we take little steps toward obedience and step out of our comfort zone a little bit at a time, we'll see major change in our lives.

God is calling Ezekiel to speak to Israel. God tells him that they won't be willing to listen because their hearts are hardened. So He says He'll make Ezekiel just as hard headed as they are so he won't give up when rejected. God was very intentional when He created us. He gave us certain gifts and looks for a reason. His design for us is consistent with His purpose for us. If he gave you the gift of prayer, use it to pray for others. If He gave you the gift of singing, sing for Him. You can use your gift to glorify Him no matter what it is. But don't get discouraged when you don't have the same gift as someone else; you're not supposed to! You were created ON purpose FOR a purpose. Don't let anyone or anything tell you your life is meaningless; that couldn't be further from the truth. Ask God what your gift is and how He wants you to use that for the glory of His Kingdom!

When we bear the yoke, we're going through something really hard. Back then, yoke was used by oxen to help them pull heavy loads. We've all had heavy loads before, but when we look to God in them, it's easier to get through them. And the younger we are, the more we'll know at a younger age. Salvation doesn't have an age limit; you're never too old to come to God. But those who have known Him longer will be more spiritually mature and know more about Him, which is useful for every day life. So if you feel like you've gone through so much at such a young age, take heart! It's good to be refined and purified at a young age; just don't take your eyes off Jesus when you go through hardships!!
