29 Palms Inn

29 Palms Inn Historic Inn, located at the 9,000 year-old Oasis of Mara in the Mojave Desert, California. Adobe Bungalows & Wood Frame Cabins, Restaurant & Organic Garden.
(1311)

Est. 1928 Established in 1928 at the historic Oasis of Mara in Twentynine Palms, the 29 Palms Inn has welcomed guests to the beautiful Mojave Desert for almost a century. This 9,000-year-old natural desert oasis was first settled by the Serrano Indians, who named it Mara to mean “the place of little springs and much grass”. Guests can explore the grounds, and learn more about the cultural and hist

orical significance of the Oasis during walking tours, offered on Saturday & Sunday mornings, led by the Inn’s own desert naturalist, Pat Flanagan. Across the 70-acre property, looking out to the mountains of Joshua Tree National Park, the 29 Palms Inn offers an eclectic mix of guest accommodations. Family owned and operated for five generations now, the Inn offers a kind of retreat that’s hard to compare with other places. You’ll stay not in one of a hundred cookie-cutter rooms, but one of a few wood frame cabins built in the 1920’s, or adobe bungalows from the 1930’s. For those looking to stay a little longer, full amenity guest houses and vacation rentals are also available. While no two guest quarters are alike, they all promise comfort, relaxation, and stunning desert views. The vibrant poolside restaurant at the Inn is open daily for a late lunch and dinner with a fresh menu that specializes in seafood, steaks, daily pasta specials, and great vegetarian options. Sourdough bread is baked daily on premise, all soups, dressings, and desserts are house made, and everything grown in the organic garden called Faultline Farm is used in the kitchen. There’s a full bar that includes a great wine list, local beer on tap, and fantastic seasonal handcrafted cocktails. Live music 5 nights a week. Minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, and an hour from the Mojave National Preserve, the 29 Palms Inn is your getaway into the California Desert. It is also your gateway into the thriving art scene of the high desert. Located at the west end of the property is the 29 Palms Creative Center & Gallery, the vibrant working studio of artist and family member Gretchen Grunt. Drop in for pottery painting, sign up in advance for a workshop or class, and plan a little creative time for your next vacation. Hotel Reservations Office Hours:

Tucked beneath towering Washingtonian palms at the edge of the Oasis, Old Frame 1 & 2 offers a peaceful desert retreat for families, friends, or couples traveling together.

Two private bedrooms open onto a spacious wraparound deck overlooking the pond, where mornings begin with birdsong and evenings settle into the soft light reflected across the water. Warm wood interiors, clerestory windows, and the quiet presence of the Oasis create a space that invites you to slow down and stay awhile.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of opening our doors to our guests and incredible musicians. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bill Winter. Many of you will recognize him as a staple at the 29 Palms Inn on Saturday nights. We wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to Bill for filling our dining room with his music and spirit for so many years. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this time.

Something special is rolling into town.

On Saturday, June 27, the Hemmings Great Race makes its Twentynine Palms stop at Luckie Park as part of the Route 66 Centennial celebration. More than 100 vintage automobiles from across the country will arrive throughout the afternoon, bringing a little piece of automotive history to the Mojave.

Whether you’re a car enthusiast, a Route 66 fan, or simply looking for a fun local outing, it’s a rare chance to see these remarkable vehicles up close and meet the people driving them across America.

Make a day of it with lunch at the Inn, or turn it into a desert weekend and stay awhile. Reservations are recommended.
