I love furniture, and I’ve always aimed to design/build all my own stuff. I’ve done that with some of the tables at DoubleShot. But recently I teamed up with to build a couple new chairs. They’re mostly steel, with wooden arms I sawed down from walnut slabs. Best seats in the house? I don’t know, but they’re pretty sweet.

I’ve received so many comments and text messages about my mom. Thank you so much for caring bout her and sending your support. Her funeral is this Thursday afternoon, and the DoubleShot will SHUT at 4p that day in her honor. If you knew Millie, I encourage you to attend her service. She would’ve loved seeing your faces.

My mom, Millie has been a fixture at DoubleShot for the past 22 years. Back in 2004 she helped me get the place started, loaned me some money, painted, and put up with me on a daily basis. She was always the bookkeeper/office manager, but more than that: she was the friendly face and kind soul who took the time to get to know you, ask about your family, and lend a listening ear whenever you needed. People constantly said to me, “Your mom is so sweet.” And it made me laugh every time because it’s true, but she was also tough as nails. She left us yesterday after living with cancer for far too long. The place hasn’t been the same since she retired in 2023, and her passing has left a deep scar on my heart. Every day is a gift. Start with coffee, and live each one with intention. Follow your dreams. Be kind. And stand up for what you believe to be the truth. Thank you, mom.

Services Thursday, April 9 at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel, just up the street from DoubleShot. Viewing at 3p, funeral at 4p.

If you’ve ever had our pecan butter cups, you’re already addicted. If not, I hope you didn’t give up chocolate for Lent. Our pastry chefs whipped up some pecan butter-filled, DoubleShot coffee-infused dark chocolate Easter bunnies for sale only this week. If there are any left (unlikely), I’m going to eat them all myself. They’re available now at the register. Buy multiple. Give as gifts if you can part with them.
Hours of coffee are normal this week, but we will be SHUT on Sunday for our annual staff Easter egg hunt.

Way back in 2008 (when we had a lot more free time to do dumb stuff), I enlisted .art to help me dream up directions for making a French press the Rube Goldberg way. I made it into a brochure that included the actual simplified method of times and temperatures (no fainting goat required). Those were the good old days. Check it out in the art nook at The Rookery.
