First I want to get this out here, the Philly cheese steak was fire, I ate it on the back patio and I honestly needed a little bit of privacy, potentially even a room, thing is, I’m picky about my Phillies. The taste was great, savory, juicy, melty and meaty, I would’ve preferred a bread with a softer outside with a butter toasted inside as a personal preference, I also love my Phillies STUFFED, which I would’ve liked to see, over all it’s a solid Philly. (please keep it on the menu)
More importantly I want to talk about the atmosphere and vibe of this place. I would describe Gypsy as a place where many worlds collide at once, it is a snapshot of almost every culture, counter-culture, person and so much more at Gypsy. When you step through the door from the patio it feels as though you are stepping into a different dimension, the air changes, the energy shifts, and your state of being changes as your immersed into it; it’s as if you can feel the freedom of expression running through the air, you can hear the chatter of people as you watch two play chess at the table, while people read in the back, all whilst the baristas flutter from the kitchen then to the bar, and people transfer back and forth from seat to menu.
Every single thing about the place naturally sets your mind at ease and puts you into a state of expressive freedom.
I have seen and met every single type of person there from what you would consider the “normal” person to the farthest ends of alternative, this is such a beautiful thing to see, especially in a world where we are starting to loose community like this. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about what this tiny coffee house represents, an enclave in a deviously oppressive state that despite all of the difficulties of the groups it brings together, it still stands tall and radiantly acting a beacon against oppression, its very existence is a protest to what the world currently fits, and is possibly the most American thing I have experienced, It provides the community, love, support, and freedom, Gypsy not only represents what it means to be American but but what it means to be Human.
I’m from Yukon, I travel to Tulsa often, and without fail I am pulled there, normally by my partner who likes the coffee but I will go there just for the piano, just to bathe in the energy and enjoy the feeling the coffeehouse provides, it’s feels like the most human form of therapy lol!
I have so much more to say, but I think you should go there and experience it yourself!
