🌼 LET’S TALK HELICHRYSUM! 🌼

If you’ve ever wondered why you’ll find Helichrysum flowers tucked into some of our herbal salves, there’s a pretty good reason!

Helichrysum italicum is sometimes called the “everlasting” flower because of its beautiful golden flowers that hold their color even after drying. But this little Mediterranean plant is much more than pretty!

🌿 Traditionally, Helichrysum has been used in herbal preparations for skin and inflammatory concerns for generations. Modern research has also found that compounds in the plant have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, along with properties that may help support the skin’s natural protective and regenerative processes.

So what makes it so interesting in a salve?

When we infuse herbs into oils, we’re creating a way to pull many of the plant’s oil-soluble constituents into a preparation that can be applied directly to the skin. That means the beautiful properties of the herb become part of the finished salve rather than just sitting there looking pretty! 🌿

Research on Helichrysum extracts has shown promising skin-protective effects, including effects on irritated skin and processes involved in maintaining the skin’s structure. There’s still more human research needed, but the combination of traditional herbal use and modern research makes this one of our favorite herbs to talk about.

This is exactly why we love herbalism so much — there is so much to learn about the plants growing around us!
