After 13 years of operating the cafe and roasterie at 6th Ave, we have some news! As of September, we are passing the torch to new owners: Clay Koweek and Mollie Silva. Chris, Doug, and Amy will continue to own and operate Exo/Bar Crisol on Simpson, and the two cafes will cooperate as “sister” cafes going forward.
We could not be happier to hand over the reins for the 6th Ave cafe to Clay and Mollie. They share the same ethos and passion that we do, a compatibility we have recognized through years of friendship. Clay Koweek has been roasting for Exo for over a year with Chris as his mentor. Chris will retain a position as a senior roaster and advisor to the new owners. You can expect the same roasted coffee from Exo with the same care and precision we’ve crafted over years—at each location—with separate ownership.
We look back on the last 13 years with deep gratitude for all the customers, employees, and community members we’ve grown to know. From the early, sleepy days of hanging out (barely workin’), to the later iteration as a bustling farm-to-table breakfast spot, a music and community events venue and mezcal bar, to now, two cafes full of patrons we appreciate as family.
We really have seen YOU over the years. We watched you write your books and theses, observed you holding meetings in Exo to make good things happen in our city. We saw you get engaged; we hosted your wedding. We watched your kids grow alongside our own. We held countless benefits for causes dear to our hearts. We became best friends with our neighbors and raised our kids together on this block. 13 years is a lot of time to bear witness in a community space. And again, we are immeasurably grateful for our employees, the community, and our neighbors for allowing us to serve you.
Of course, Amy, Doug, and Chris will continue to forge a new path at the Simpson cafe. With Clay and Mollie, we will work collaboratively to bring you the same great service at each location. In fact, on the face of it, you can expect very little to change!
