While the City Commission meeting was very lightly attended, all Commissioners and Mayor were present.
City Manager Gary Whitehead presented several projects that needed increases in their original budgets. Many increases were already covered by the funds that were originally allocated for the projects, including several water projects. He was happy to report the number of leaks was down significantly at eleven leaks/areas of concern.
There were two acquisitions for fire fighters. First, the city is in the process of purchasing a new fire truck. There was a glitch that put us back in line on the waiting list, however, while it means a slight increase in cost, we'll have the 2028 model rather than 2026. New breathing equipment was also approved to increase the safety of the fire fighters.
Water systems were discussed and small increases to budgets around hospital water issues and water tank issues.
We were intrigued by the agenda item that included "ceremonial name change! There is a company based in NY, Axonius, who will be coming to T or C on Nov 10th and 11th to film a little parody commercial. The media team from the company joined us via Zoom and they were very excited as the Commission voted unanimously to allow the project, citing a positive bump for the town's tourism.
