Yoooooooooo the menu is GOOD this weekend! Colombia Alirio Muñoz is blowing my mind on hot coffee, Ethiopia Raro WASHED blue fruits on E2, and WAIT until you taste Sunkiss on ice 🧊. Also, there’s this Square bonus thing happening apparently and people are getting like $5 for free? I don’t really know anything about it but it’s showing up for a lot of people 🤷🏻‍♂️ Here 9-1!

MANY HANDS MAKE GREAT KENYA 🙌

When we started this whole Touchy Coffee thing back in 2018, there was a self-imposed notion to find coffees that were strictly single farmer produced. Macrolots were not favored, neighborhoods were overlooked and drilling down to the folks only producing 60-300kg per year were our heroes.

Fast forward a bit and of course, the myopia that fueled our first few years has lifted, slowly allowing us to see beauty in big lots, particularly as quality continues to rise

Enter this deliciously approachable Kenya coffee, “Kamathura”, which is born of a new relationship between one of our longtime green coffee importers, The Coffee Quest US and the Kamavindi Family in Embu County. Coffee cherries from nearly 5,000 (!) farmers are collected, sorted for quality and processed to deliver what we consider quintessential Kenya.

Missing from this lot is that weird, vegetal, savory tomato presence that very often appears in coffees from this region. Bear witness to jammy dark fruits 🍇🫐 layered with rich spices in beans that are actually soluble enough to brew easily.

Truly a winner in this era of racing to be the brightest, most acidic, most difficult-to-extract coffee 😌

Getting a bit sentimental here 🥲

There are two things that keep all of us at Touchy Coffee excited about this work.

The first is finding those revelatory sips of coffee that somehow change the way you think about coffee, even after all this time.

The second is getting to share those moments with other people IRL, through hospitality.

In a lot of ways, Touchy Coffee has always felt like a wild experiment to us. We wanted to know if we could build a life around coffee and hospitality without squeezing all the magic out of either one. If we could stay curious, keep the standards high, take care of the people doing the work, and still feel genuinely excited to come to the roastery every day.

Doing that in a small market, with a tiny team and limited cafe hours, makes the experiment even stranger. But that’s also kind of the point. We’re trying to find a balance that feels sustainable and meaningful, and to make something special along the way for ourselves and for everyone we get to share these coffees with.

We’re still figuring it out! We’re always learning, always growing, still chasing those perfect little coffee moments and staying creative when it comes to making it all work.
