One of my earliest memories is watching my blind father teach us what faith really means.
There was a day when we had no food in the house. No money. Nothing. My father called us together and said, “I’m going to show you how good God is.”
He put a pot of water on the stove and let it boil. As the hours passed, he added more water, but there was still no food. As children, we didn’t understand what he was doing.
But my father believed.
About two hours later, my older brother unexpectedly arrived with money so we could buy food. I will never forget what happened next. My father dropped to his knees and began thanking God. He reminded us that God may not come when we want Him to, but He is always right on time.
That lesson has stayed with me my entire life.
Today, as I fight to keep my dream alive and open Charlene’s Taste of Jamaica, there are days when I feel like I’m staring at another pot of boiling water. The bills are due, the rent is behind, and I don’t always know how everything will come together.
But I remember my father’s faith.
I remember that God has carried me through the loss of my parents, the loss of my brother, health challenges, financial struggles, and countless obstacles. Through it all, He has never failed me.
This GoFundMe is about more than opening a restaurant. It’s about honoring the lessons my father taught me, creating a legacy for my children, and proving that with faith, hard work, and the support of a community, dreams can become reality.
Thank you for every donation, every prayer, and every share. Whether you give financially or simply share my story, you are helping me move one step closer to turning this dream into a blessing for my family and my community.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
