It has come to light that management at the Trenton Farmers Market made racially insensitive and inappropriate remarks within their own orbit. Losing administrative access to social media was a step in the right direction, but accountability shouldn’t stop there. Many of you are already familiar with the pattern of behavior and the lack of respect this individual has shown.
If you’ve ever raised an issue or filed a complaint on our behalf and felt like it fell on deaf ears, this is an opportunity to make sure your voice is heard not for us, but for the community that supports the small businesses that make the market what it is. This moment is for anyone who has felt dismissed, talked down to, or targeted behind screens and online commentary.
We encourage community members to reach out to the Trenton Farmers Market and its Board of Directors to make it clear that racism, disrespect, and unprofessional behavior have no place in a shared community space. The future of the market depends on leadership that reflects respect, accountability, and inclusivity.
More than two dozen small businesses operate within this co-op, and they should not have to carry the weight of one person’s behavior. Real change is needed to ensure the market remains a welcoming space for everyone.
NJ 101.5 posted a story about three Black men from Trenton arrested Somerset County. Kearney responded with “Happy BH month”, alluding to Black History celebrations for the month of February.
