The coolest thing happened at ArtSpire yesterday - SEVERAL people said “oh! Fat Duck Designs…your items are for sale at the Down-Leau, right?” (I’m paraphrasing but that’s the gist of the comments!)
And we got to say, ‘YES! We actually own the Down-Leau :)’ - and it was truly a full circle “holy cats this is so cool” moment for us. The Down-Leau initially began as a dream to expand Fat Duck Designs and to have a brick and mortar for our creative pursuits, and it’s become so, SO much more than that. It’s building community (OUR community), it’s making new connections and strengthening old connections, it’s the simple pleasures that come with the “special little treat business” and the feeling that we’re making the tiiiiiniest positive impacts on other folks’ days. It’s early mornings, and sometimes late nights; it’s meeting people where they are on good days and bad days and everything in between. It’s regulars, occasional stop-byers, passerby’s and tourists, and people that drove to Trempealeau JUST to come to our shop 🥹
In some regards this whole experience feels so tangible and wholesome; and in other ways I truly can’t put words to how much this little shop, in this little town, means to Kyle and I.
