At Oakwood we are committed to curating a proper burger based on philosophies that support local sustainable products and practices. Our primary ingredients are sourced through a non-commodified supply chain--people, families and workers that share a similar ethos and values to our own. Each day we will serve freshly ground Michigan Craft Beef which is antibiotic/hormone free and produced entirely

in Michigan (Holland and Ontonagon) at Moraine Park Farms. Our buns are baked fresh daily just across the street at Common Good Bakery, and our bread slices are from another great local bakery, Bay Bread Co. With our shakes, we are proud to support Michigan dairy by using fresh one-source creamery Michigan Moo-ville brand ice cream. Our building was remodeled using recycled and previously owned fixtures and equipment where possible, and urban wood from non-traditional forestry sources. We are committed to investing in all of the thoughtful ingredients that add up to an Oakwood Proper Burger experience.

Good morning! Two quick things this morning :

1) check out the breakfast specials for this week only!
2) Beef tallow continues! Our high grade soybean oil is getting harder to source, and we aren't interested in using cheaper oil (bad for you and burns the fries)-- plus beef tallow last longer, doesn't break down as quickly and therefore will be less waste -- so for those of you digging the tallow (which is a lot!) it's still here!

In recognition of the 100th year for the cherry festival, we will be serving up some cherry breakfast specials all week!

We've had a very busy weekend already, and I haven't had time for a proper photo or post, but they will start tomorrow! We will have cherry compote & whipped ricotta French toast, the cherry Javelina sandwich, cherry compote with fresh baked Bay Bread biscuits, and cherry Horchata 

Heck, get a cherry margarita for breakfast if you want.

We are open July 4th - 8am-8pm (sometimes longer if there's a line--like last night!).

Shout out to all our staff for working so hard! We are BUSY! Each day is a new record, and they hustle with a smile. 😊

A few things to remember:

1) Sometimes we can't take call-in orders when it's a rush. It's easier if you walk in to place your to go order
2) we don't take reservations but there is ample seating, especially with the social district.
3) Be patient- we have a 36" grill so if 100 burgers are on the line and we can cook 15 at a time -- there will be a wait. Enjoy yourself!
4) If you call, and ask how long the wait is if you arrive in 20 minutes-- I'll never know that answer. 😂

Please have a safe 4th of July. Please be responsible and don't drink and drive. Call an uber, walk, or hell, message me - sober for 8 years here- I'll pick you up. Just whatever you do, don't operate any vehicle under the influence. Please.

This week - our fries are being cooked in beef tallow! So, if you're a customer that had to stay away from our soybean oil-- this week is your week!

If you are someone who does not eat animal byproducts-- this week is not your week for fries.

Signs are up. Language is posted. We love all of you and are excited for those who previously could not experience our fresh, hand-cut (never frozen) double blanched French fries.

The only statement we are making about this beef tallow is this: it's a new recipe we are trying. ❤️

EDIT: guys, we are not trying to be controversial. We are simply asking our current customers if they would give us feedback on beef tallow fries. This was not a debate about how we cook our food-- as we do our best to inform our customers that a veggie patty is cooked to the side on the same grill (we even have a sign). They can see us cook it. We love that we have vegetarians love our veggie burgers! And while our veggie sales are only 2.75% of our total sales it still matters to us. Please don't argue with each other or me. Just let me know "yes" or "no" and bonus if you tell me if you are a current customer or not.

This is a trial for this week only. Not permanent.

We want your feedback! We are using beef tallow this week in our fryer! We know you love our fries and we think you'll love them even more with this seed oil alternative! If you're an Oakwood fry-fanatic - stop in this week and let us know what you think!

We also want to hear from our vegetarian friends -- will you still eat our fries if they are cooked in beef tallow? We think so, since you eat our Evergreen grilled on the same grill with all the bacon and beef juices, but we want to hear from you too!

I always enjoy working on Father's Day, as it gives me the chance to honor my late dad, who taught me how to work hard! I am so thankful for that life lesson.

Here's the real deal guys. I have a full-time job outside of the restaurant. I don't labor inside of the shop as much as I used to. I mostly stick to the administrative side and grill once in a while. Today I got to work on the grill with Josh and our crew for half the day, and it was awesome. We worked so hard and had a very busy day. And I tell you what-- I am tired! This is me, with full on grease filter, just arriving home.

Working in this industry is a grind, you love it, or you don't work in it. Summertime is fun and is what most of us live for--busy, sunshine, challenges. When you come home late, with sore feet and back, and a few new grease blisters, you feel accomplished, exhausted, and damn proud.

And then, there it is, the personal part where someone leaves a comment and tells you "it's not worth it". Well, we are, and you are. It's why we show up every day ready to cook for you, because you're worth it. You may not always get a perfect meal, but you're going to get people serving you that think you're worth the blisters, the back pain and the feet that throb (not too mention the countless skipped meals). It's why they show up, for you.

So, hug an industry friend. Or, the next time you go out to eat, recognize those people cooking your food and waiting on you think you're pretty special, so let them know they are too.

To my brother in law, sister in law, niece, work children and all my incredible staff -- thanks for putting your hearts and backs on the line EVERY SINGLE DAY. I love you guys! You are amazing!
