Diana Jones (DJ) dreamed of the day where she would finally be able to put the corporate life behind her. Prior to owning DJ’s, DJ had been working at Proctor and Gamble—which had been a career for her for nearly 27 years. Although this career provided DJ with skills (such as management skills and communication skill), this career did not give DJ passion. Having this career-based lack…DJ resided t
o the fact that she would be stuck in the corporate life until she retired. Until…
Like any other Sunday while driving her daughter back to school (at Ohio Northern University), DJ discovered a small little dairy barn out in the middle of nowhere. Naturally, knowing DJ’s love for ice cream, DJ and her family stopped to grab a medium, twist cone. From that point forward…DJ discovered a fun little weekend tradition—as well as the seedling of a genius idea. Through several weeks, DJ continued to enjoy ice cream cones from this small-town treat location and began pondering the idea of having a similar place in Bethel Township. After all, Bethel was very comparable in environment to the small dairy barn, and Bethel did not have anything like this luxury within the township. As more time passed, the more momentum DJ’s idea grew. Within one year of planning, DJ’s Chill ‘n Grill was born (October 20, 2018). In addition to DJ creating a reason for retirement/a retirement hobby, DJ yearned for the business to benefit the small community of Bethel Township. DJ made it a mission to serve the community is several ways. One way being to serve tasty treats to the community and outward—as well as a mission to utilize the land that has been in DJ’s family for generations. Most importantly, DJ has strived (and continues to strive) to provide a safe haven for families and friends—a place that fosters people to be present in the moment and to make memories for years to come. DJ has also made the mission of her new business to be a source of community service—giving back to the community what the community has once given to DJ and her family. By setting the foundation of service, DJ hopes to one day pass along DJ’s to her daughter, Alyssa Jones.
