Uptown Coffeehouse

Uptown Coffeehouse The Uptown has brought traditional & compemporary folk music to the Bronx for 26 years.

The Uptown is a 501(3)(c) charitable organization run entirely by volunteers and is dedicated to promoting traditional & contemporary folk music. We provide a venue in the Bronx for monthly concerts from some of the finest artists in the folk world. After 25 years in the Riverdale area of the Bronx, we are entering our 2nd season in charming City Island.

Wishing all of our former audience near and far a very Happy & Peaceful Holiday. Though our doors are now closed after 25 years of music, our hearts will forever be thankful for all the great music we were able to present. Thanks for the memories!

It's hard to imagine a world without Richie Havens in it... Cliff Eberhardt recently shared some fond memories of Richie at our last show in January, so it is especially sad for us to hear of his passing. Here's a song Richie originally released in 1974, written by Tom Pacheco & Roland Moussa... http://youtu.be/eyP_wNa32EU

Cliff Eberhardt is a peer of Gorka, Vega, Kaplansky, Gold, Forbert, Lavin & Colvin, all of whom originally made a name for themselves as young artists in the 80's. “Eberhardt's musical compositions and acoustical guitar playing are delicious in their... own right. There’s something both clever and soulful in his songwriting. His gravelly voice on the low end also expresses a rich sweetness, as if Tom Waits melded with Ritchie Havens."

Join us on Sunday, January 13th @ 6 pm, as we welcome in the New Year at the Uptown Coffeehouse with Cliff Eberhardt.

When we heard Amy's voice, we knew right away that we had to invite her to the Uptown. Think of the great singers of classic country music like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn & Patty Loveless, then add a touch of Bonnie Raitt's sassy blues, and you'll begin to get a sense of Amy's sound. Amy has always had an unquestioned feel for classic material, but her powerful voice and presence are now matched by the commanding range of her own writing. Don't miss Amy Black's Uptown debut next Sunday, November 4!

One of the true pleasures we experience at the Uptown is introducing young artists who go on to carry the mantle in the world of folk music. John Gorka embraced Drew Nelson as one of his favorite new artists in 2006, and Drew topped the folk radio charts when he released his CD Dusty Road to Beulah Land on Waterbug Records in 2009. His follow-up on Red House Records Tilt-A-Whirl recently came out in 2012.

Join us on Sunday, October 7 @ 6 pm, as we welcome the rising young folk star, Drew Nelson, in his Uptown debut.
