Hey! A quick reminder that we are a small business. Any money we donate comes directly out of our pockets. We don’t have a line on the budget, or a mother company, or a magical box that provides for donations.
We are also not obligated to provide you an accounting of who we donate to because you decide to comment on something you don’t like.
You act like if we donate here, then that negates there. It’s not mutually exclusive.
We donate, sponsor, host, contribute, and partner all year long. In fact, we’ve answered these questions before. Short list of who we donate to and have worked with (not all encompassing, just off the top of my head): CASY, Boys and Girls Club, Team of Mercy, Miracle on 7th, Firefighters, Police, hosted and sponsored Juneteenth, art installations for Dr. Crystal Reynolds including the Frederick Douglas and the upcoming Clarence Walker installations, Reach Services (veterans), Pride Center (obviously), ISU Multicultural, ISU athletic scholarships, Ivy Tech, Swope, children’s museum, riverscape, Entrepreneurial program, Pink, cancer walks, color walks, lemonade socials, we’ve sold shirts for employee with cancer, we’ve sold shirts for a vendor with an ailment (being purposely vague), local high school donations and sponsorships, countless sponsorships, an ungodly amount of gift cards and in-kind donations.
Again, not even close to a comprehensive list.
Point being, we endeavor to be good stewards of the community - the whole community.
Don’t like this specific cause. No worries. We will have more opportunities that may be more meaningful to you. The hate and insinuation that we don’t care about “insert cause here” because you’re mad about this one is unfounded and not true.
Want us to consider something in the future? Certainly better ways to go about it than to try to shame us.
At the end of the day, we aren’t shoving anything down your throats. We posted about the burger twice in a month and the show twice. Also, our page is 21 & over and not recommended/marketed to under age people, AND, voluntary to see. We don’t pay to advertise or send it out. We don’t control algorithms. We only control our business and the decisions for it.
On a personal level, we do have a lot of people in our lives that we like, love, admire, live around, work with, see our kids with, etc… in the community. We are happy to support and be a positive presence for them. Most of my kids and grandkids aren’t old enough to see the anger and negativity shared here on our page, but if they ever did, I hope they catch us in the act of being kind and inclusive.
Years ago, when we started this, it wasn’t as volatile or divisive. Im sad to see it devolved to where it’s at, but it only reinforces why support from the community matters.
We will continue to be a neighborhood pub and invite ALL of our neighbors in. The world is tough enough for people. We are just selling burgers - settle down.
