I’m just going to be honest and transparent here….
As a tenant inside a mall that is currently going through bankruptcy, we have been left in an incredibly difficult and frightening position. Bills are not being paid, utilities are being shut off, and yet the tenants who are operating businesses inside this building have been given little to no communication about what is happening or what we are supposed to do.
We have essentially been left completely in the dark.
There is no reliable person to contact regarding maintenance issues, building concerns, or emergencies. When something goes wrong, we are forced to figure it out ourselves because there is nobody available to provide answers or assistance. We are doing everything within our power just to keep our businesses open and functioning.
The most stressful part is the uncertainty. Every single day, we come into work wondering if the water will still be running or if the power will be turned off. We cannot properly operate businesses when we don’t know whether we will have the basic utilities necessary to remain open. We have employees, customers, inventory, equipment, and financial obligations that depend on this building having working utilities and basic maintenance.
We understand that bankruptcy is a complicated situation, but the tenants should not be expected to bear the consequences without communication, guidance, or support. We have continued paying our obligations and doing everything we can to keep our businesses running, yet we are being placed in a position where our livelihoods are at risk because essential bills and building responsibilities are not being handled.
We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for communication, accountability, and basic information about what is happening to the property and what the tenants can expect moving forward.
We deserve to know who is responsible for the building, who we are supposed to contact when there is an emergency, how utility issues are being addressed, and whether we can reasonably expect to have the water, electricity, and other essential services necessary to operate.
Running a small business is already incredibly difficult. Having to operate every day with the fear that the building could lose essential utilities, while having no one to contact and no answers about what is happening, has created an unbearable amount of stress and uncertainty.
This isn’t just my livelihood, this is my entire families livelihood and we’re the ones that are cleaning bathrooms, opening and closing a mall because there are no employees, taking out the trash for the entire mall all while doing that out of our own pocket just to stay open. So please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and of all things be kind right now as we navigate this nightmare. ❤️
