UGA Football Barn Sign

UGA Football Barn Sign DAWGNATION,

This is the Official Facebook Fan page for the “UGA Football Barn Sign” located on Highway 15 between Tennille and Wrightsville, GA.

These two small towns have produced many successful football players for UGA, most notably Hershel Walker. In 2000 the season opened with Quincy Carter as our starting QB. For those that remember, Quincy soon became a train wreck. After the World’s Largest Cocktail Party in Jacksonville, we decided to voice our opinion of our QB status. While discussing how we would materialize our thoughts, a clo

se relative joked that we should paint the side of the old ‘Jot Em Down Store’ which had been in his family since the late 1930's. (Side Note: There are a few stores with this name, but this one is local to the area and probably not as known as other landmarks with the same name.) We quickly accepted his offer and aimed to paint the south side of the store’s exterior in order for all the traffic to view as they headed back to the northern part of the state on Sunday following the game. The night after the game, we painted the old store. That year was an election year and the basis of our message. Cory soon became our starting QB. Cory’s most recognized game was against our arch rival Georgia Tech. Cory completed 36 of 62 passes for 413 yds. These stats are currently ranked: 1st (tie with Eric Zier) for most completions in a UGA game; 2nd for most attempts in a UGA game; 8th for most passing yds in a UGA game. The old store soon came to be locally known as the “UGA Barn Sign”. The first message was such a success that we continued to use the old store to voice our opinions. We always aim to stay positive, though a few messages have voiced frustration. The only ‘non-UGA’ related message was after 9/11. It’s hard to believe how quickly the many messages have come to pass. We plan to continue painting the Barn Sign for years to come. Over the years we’ve seen people taking pictures of the messages or having their picture taken in front of it, especially during the week of the Florida game. We’ve seen paintings and heard of others. There are supposedly even restaurants around the state with pictures of the Barn Sign hanging on their walls and people who have it hanging on their living room walls. We would love to see pictures of these items old and new! Please post pictures you’ve taken, drawings, paintings, or any other media that everyone may enjoy viewing! We know the Barn Sign is very popular and would like to see ‘all things related’ to the Barn Sign pinned to this page! GO DAWGS!

Well, I was having a good week till this headline popped up on my phone. 😩

Y’all ever had a situation that you didn’t have the experience or knowledge to truly fully understand it so that you could develop a reasonable detailed stance on why something keeps falling short of a goal, regardless of how many different ways that situation is rearranged or managed, but you do see a common denominator….so at some point you have to say to yourself “this common denominator just has to be the issue of why we can’t get over a difficult hump”.

Bobo is that type of situation for me. Bobo worked under Richt as OC, working under Kirby as a consultant and OC, has had different assistants and position coaches along the way…. hasn’t ever won a Natty as an OC, or coached in a Natty as OC. Why is that?

Being the OC isn’t just about play calling. It’s about coordinating from Sunday morning to Friday night, too. Choosing your coordinators. Coaching the coordinators. Developing practice schemes and schedules. Identifying recruits. Evaluating recruits. Recruiting recruits. AFTER all that’s done, then it’s about the play calling. But wait, you say, “the players have to execute…. the coaches can’t execute the plays for the players….” Ok well who identifies the recruit’s talents and who is in charge of developing the players. Ultimately, the OC is.

Why do we struggle at times, sometimes the worst possible times at critical moments (play calls inside the 5-10 yd line, 3rd and long, going for it on 4th down, etc)…. not executing plays or not calling the plays to best use the strengths of our key play makers.

I don’t know the details of all these OC responsibilities that we aren’t exposed to as fans, and I’m not sure I need to know all the details - but I do see the common denominator: Bobo.

Then there’s Schumann. Dbacks that give up big plays, a defense that usually looks lost in the first half, etc. What’s the common denominator? Same - the DC.

Now, every team in the country that doesn’t win a Natty could say the same about their shortcomings. But we are no ordinary team. We routinely have top recruiting classes with the best facilities.

I could be way off here but this just feels like the same thing, over and over and over with these two.

All I can say now is, that I’m going to be cheering for them both the whole season, while simultaneously posting about how aggravated I am with both of them. So just go ahead and prepare yourselves for my usual merry-go-round of emotions. Kickoff will be here in no time!

Georgia football coordinators Mike Bobo and Glenn Schumann have signed contract extensions. Here are details including increases in total pay.

Go Dawgs!!
