08/31/2022

We learned today that Jeff Van Hoosier, who served faithfully and professionally as General Manager for 27 years of Pony Express Pizza and Capers Restaurant., passed from this life this morning at 9:55AM.

Jeff will remain forever in our hearts and memories filled with his joy, light, music, laughter and good cheer - he lived a life of love and compassion for everyone.

Jeff was the example of the Golden Rule, treating all others with dignity, love and respect.

We love you and will miss you, Jeff, knowing with faith filled confidence that your spirit endures forever.

As Jeff would wish for us all, we also share with him and all those who know and love him, Peace.

Cheers!

We express deeply heartfelt gratitude to our community for the love and compassionate support communicated to the Capers family during this difficult time. Many years ago our family committed to establish a restaurant which embraced the spirit of fun loving fellowship and hospitality in our beloved small town community.

We have received many expressions of encouragement, strength and goodwill. These have included stories and loving memories from individuals and families from everywhere in the country about ways in which Capers and our team members have touched and enriched their lives within a broader community. What a blessing to hear and share such warm hearted and joyful stories! It is a gift to know that Capers has been a place where so many have shared affirmative, creative and uplifting experiences.

We are humbled and privileged to have worked alongside every present and former Capers family staff member. Arriving to work in the joyful company of intelligent, hardworking, fun-filled friends is incredibly gratifying. We believe the staff at Capers exemplifies a high level of professionalism, skill and integrity while providing personal, supportive service for all who have walked through the doors of 701 Main Street. We are sincerely grateful for their dedication throughout the years.

We also sincerely appreciate the services of all community service providers and Mayor Barbara Ewing. Our emergency and first responders risked their lives during this tragic fire event, just as they always have whenever called upon by those in need. The brave action of members from the Tell City, Cannelton, Anderson and Dale fire departments truly illustrates the courage and dedication of these public servants. They worked relentlessly throughout the night and early morning hours to secure and preserve Capers.

Thanks To Everyone.
Cheers!
