As we approach the Fall we want to focus on Chai, a delicious blend of spices that add warmth and aroma to both coffee and tea.
The origin of chai dates back to an Indian Royal Court over 5000 years ago, in which a King sought to create an invigorating drink made from Ayurvedic spices for medicinal purposes.
There are many pre-made mixes and syrups available on the market to make Chai. Below is a homemade version that can be used in both beverages and other recipes like pancakes and muffins.
Chai TEA is made with Chai spices, strong black tea, milk and honey.
A DIRTY CHAI is a Chai TEA with a shot of espresso added. Use our own CCM ESPRESSO!
The below recipe is for CHAI SPICED COFFEE that can be made in a commercial or personal drip coffee maker:
CCM SUMATRA MANDHELING Roasted Whole bean Coffee, Ground for Drip
Chai Spices (to be mixed together):
2 ½ TBSP Ground Cinnamon
2 TBSP Ground Cardamom
1 ½ TBSP Ground Cloves
1 TBSP Ground Coriander
1 TBSP Ground Ginger
1 TSP Ground Black Pepper
Dairy or Non-Dairy to taste (milk, almond, coconut, etc.)
Honey to taste
(Sweetened Condensed Milk can also be used)
1. In a drip coffee maker, prepare for 4 cups of coffee, using your preferred amount of grounds to coffee strength.
2. Mix the spices together to make the chai mixture. Add ONE TEASPOON of the spice mixture in to the coffee grounds.
3. Brew Coffee. Pour coffee in mug and add desired amount of dairy/non-dairy and sweetener to enhance the spices of the chai.
