Recruitment Lot is Here!

This is not just your elevated daily sipper. This coffee is a true community and collaborative effort that supports multiple farms and young coffee producers in Colombia.

Farm Name: Recruitment Lot
Location: Antioquia, Huila & Cauca, Colombia
Elevation: 1800-2000 masl
Variety: Castillo, Caturra
Process: Washed

The Recruitment Lot program is designed to identify and engage young coffee producers who want to turn their farms into thriving businesses in the specialty coffee market.

Through the program, we set quality standards and flavor profiles and organize cuppings hosted by partner producers across different regions, allowing us to reach more producers throughout the country. By assessing the quality and flavor of each lot, we’re able to identify promising candidates for the program and connect them with support through the local Young Producer Association (YPA).

This lot is the result of that process, and we’re excited to share it with you.

1: Website Launch
It's been almost 7 years and we haven't had an actual website. But that ends this weekend! New webstore with our amazing Coffee, Merch, and a Roaster's Choice subscription will be going live and shipping all over America.

2: FL Coffee Festival
We will be returning to the FL Coffee Festival in November! We will have an exclusive coffee box available at this festival and we hope to see everyone there.

3: Pumpkin is Back!
We wait until the "Ber" months to release it and the time has come. Pumpkin caramel is here starting this weekend!

What is a Coffee Cupping?

Well, in simple terms, it's coffee's version of quality control using just water and coffee in a cup.

Cupping, as opposed to brewing, ensures the only variable that is different is the coffee. It requires zero brewing technique so that the coffee is truly the only thing that you are tasting

The amount of coffee, grind size, water, water temperature, cup size, and brew time are all the same. This ensures that the only thing we are tasting is the coffee.

Why Do We Cup Coffees?

To assess:
Fragrance - Smelling dry coffee grounds
Aroma -Smelling wet coffee grounds
Taste - Slurping the coffee

We "slurp" the coffee so that it sprays across our entire palate. This allows us to identify sweetness, savoriness, acidity, and bitterness. We also look for defects in the coffee or the roast.

From here, we are able to pick out flavor notes; the notes you see listed on the retail bag come from us cupping the coffees.

When do we Cup Coffees?

1. When we receive samples from importers or producer/farmers.

2. When we roast, to determine the level and approach we want to highlight the coffee varietal, process, and origin.

3. When we want to do palate training.

4. Simply, for fun! We love to cup with staff, customers, and friends.

Cupping coffee can come off a little bit scary or unapproachable. And there are some in the industry that would make you believe it is because there is a ritual and sacredness to it. But it's something that is fun and truly accessible for just about anyone.
